Great job OldMan3!

The fact that you got done what you did....given the circumstances...is damn good.

Glad no one was hurt....glad you didn't freeze your engines up.

Coldest I have ever personally had multiple streams flowing was -27 below.

That was a mutual aid call 20 miles away.

Our Storz cap was frozen on solid. We had to borrow a torch!

Didn't take long.....but if felt like an eternity. Especially since there was a confirmed person inside and the home FD was fubared.

I live quite a ways out in the country and depend of my local volunteer fire department. They are some fine fellas who drop everything when they get notified of an emergency. Unfortunately, if I have a major house fire I expect to lose everything as their equipment can't carry much water. Oh well, that's why we carry insurance.

I don't care if it's your job or not. Any person who enters a burning building to rescue a living soul gets my respect. I believe in that situation I would go in to try and rescue anyone trapped inside.

I put up my boots in 2009 with 25 years in. I could have stayed on and run trucks I spose but was getting a little long in the tooth for entry and air packs.

Hopefully you’ll be able to quit your part time job at The Gloryhole.

But you’ll be missed.

I was a founding member of our local VFD about 40 years ago. I went on a lot of runs back then, even to a plane crash that killed a long time neighbor. The department had a lot of ups and downs over the years, as is often the case with these small rural volunteer organizations. I have not gone on a run in many years, have no desire to either, but am still a dues paying member and will do anything I can to help keep it going.

No one got hurt and you kept other structures from getting involved. I'd say that was a successful day Brother!

It is damn tough watching folks lose it all though.

don't worry, they'll still risk their lives to drag you and your family out of your burning house even if you are too ignorant to appreciate what they do.

I’d heard that you went out on your own after claiming Workman’s Comp. for a sore throat.

This is a problem in the volly service nationwide apparently. I have been a member of several, all of which had that BS. Currently am serving as Fire Chief after being nominated pretty much against my wishes at a company meeting to move up from my deputy chief postion which I enjoyed much more than the top spot. Problem was the Chief was playing BS games and pizzed off about 3/4 of the membership. Now I have the lovely pleasure of having to attend municipal meetings etc. Have held officer positions in various companies for over 20 years. Plan on finishing this year out and then "retiring" to chauffeur status.
