I am thinking about downsizing my vehicle from my current 2008 Toyota Tundra double cab with 115,000 miles. I could almost get by with an SUV, but I still need a bed to haul a few bloody critters every year, garbage from the cabin, and light maintenance materials and tools. I only tow 2000 pounds about 200 miles per year. I only go off-pavement on forest service roads which are generally decent. I have a UTV for actual woods duty.
I would consider a Tacoma, but the poor gas mileage and cost have me considering a Ford Ranger 4WD Super Crew. But, when I see a 2.3 liter engine, I have a hard time believing it generates 270 HP or would have the ability to accelerate handily on mountain highways. Also, the Tundra has been problem-free except for a water pump at 85,000 miles, and I would like the same reliability.
Does anyone have any experience with the current model 4WD Ranger? Thanks.
