DMc I know our bass and perch seem to survive under the ice just fine
Appreciate your assurance. Where are you that you get a lot of ice? i.e. bass & panfish. N.W. Montana

Note the tree damage (and missing tree) from fall ice storm

I took the day off to check on the cabin and do a bit of snowmobiling/shooting. Turns out Skidoo has a built in rifle rest for ringing steel, sorta like a real man's biathalon.

Hey Okie, you guys ever go to Ted’s Cafe Escondido for Tex-Mex there...? Yep. Probably our favorite.

Damn! I'd like to get into a mess of smelt like that. They are fine eating little fish. That took us about 3 hrs to catch. It was a little slow at first as you have to play the tides a bit to get them running. Most folks here will fry them but we like to bread them and bake them on a cookie sheet. About 12 min at 400deg. No greasy mess. I don't freeze them. Eat them right away. Good winter fun, 10min from here and cheap. Win/win/win. If you can keep the kids warm, it's good to take them as well.

I could swear that is a picture at the Wolf Creek Bridge, resurrection Trail, out of Hope, Alaska. Used to have one just like it, only summer time with a Dipper in it. As to the fish bigger than the hole, it can happen. First time for me, the shee fish pulled off as I was trying to get it out - the second time I'd made a gaff. Got that fish, somewhat squoozed. 8 inch diameter holes aren't always big enough - most people use 10 inch augers up there (Kotzebue area)
The only true cost of having a dog is its death.
