Any time Savage changes something there is an overlap of rifles with old and new parts. You'll see this sort thing being debated on here every now and then.

One more question for the group on this rifle if I may. Was the jeweled bolt optional in early years or has this rifle been touched by a gunsmith or possibly just had the bolt changed out from a later model? I have never seen a pre-WWII 99 with the jeweled bolt. Thanks a ton.
There was an option, but it was so expensive that you never see it except on high end engraved 99's usually. It also involved jewelling the lever inside the rifle above the trigger. It's very common for gunsmiths or owners to have jewelled the bolts.
