Either the G17 I have competed with and carried for the last 27 years, or a 5.5” Redhawk .44 Mag. Depends on where I landed in someone’s dystopian 1 pistol world.

If I could only have one handgun, I somehow would feel slighted if it were not a buxom revolver - totally just for the looks and preference. That is why I kinda like the idea of a 1917 revolver for this. 45 ACP can be easily loaded to standard 45 Colt levels and be used with moon clips or even fed from 1911 mags for speed. 45 AR is also lots of fun and I have used it with some very slow loads for fun powder puff shooting.

Ruger convertable Blackhawks in 357 or 45 offer some versatility, especially the 357/38 special/9mm one. Having the cyl. cut for moon clips might allow it to shoot .380's.
A 10mm 1911. With a 9mm & 22LR conversion.
My Ruger Blackhawk .357mag 6.5" would be my choice for the flexibility of multiple calibers. Plus it's the one I'm the most comfortable and practiced with.

6” Smith 629. The criteria laid out calls for a high capacity concealed carry with the power to drop an elk. Since finding something that checks all of the boxes is an issue, I will go with the bigger is better principle.

Very nice gun? Original finish or refinished? What's the device mounted to the upper screw of the side plate?

That's one of the old Wonder Sights. A very useful device.

Yep, Wonder Sights.
The original rear sight notch is perfectly set up for a 25y zero with 230 gr ball.
It is refinished but whoever did the work was very good and used a light hand on the lettering/engraving.

This one would do. A good Colt .45 is a beautiful thing. Bob That is as good as they get right there. I have noted that we seem to have the same taste in handguns, from 4506s, 4563s, Walther PP22s, etc. As far as one handgun (terrible thought. I could see 5, and did a thread years back on a basic 5 handgun battery) I suppose a 1911 would be as good as any. From mild 185 grain semi wadcutters, for target shooting, 230 grain JHP for carry, and 250 grain heavy loads for hunting, it would certainly work. Toss in a .22 conversion kit, especially one that is threaded for a can and it is even better. Nothing like sitting in camp, bouncing pine cones and not making a racket, or popping the heads off of grouse. My Baer 1.5" P2 would be a solid candidate. Great gun, and I have a good selection of fine leather for it from some other Idaho Boys down the road.
