If you use the 7X binoculars, which ones do you use? I have used Leica and Zeiss Fl's. I like both of them, but kept the Zeiss, as I like the wider FOV and they housing feels better to me.

Meopta Meostar 7x42. I like everything but the weight...they are solid.

Old Swaro SLC 7x42. Really like these binos. Great eye-relief, and the view is like looking through a big picture window.

I have a Steiner 7x50 porro prism and a Meopta Meostar B1 7x50 roof prism. For what & where I hunt, these are both excellent, though I will say that the Meopta is probably the sturdiest built of the two.

I used to have East German NVA EDF 7x40, IF which were pretty good, but they had a very yellow color cast to them. The non military binoculars i've checked out have slightly better views and are easier to use.

I have a neighbor that bought a Nikon 8 x 30 E2 this winter, used for 450 bucks on ebay. This glass just blows away my glasses, Zeiss, Leupold, Bausch & Lomb. Yes, it's 1x higher than you want, yes, it's the very un-trendy porro, yes, it's not made in Europe. But on the USAF 1952 optic resolution chart, it can't be beat. You would be advised to keep your options open...look thru one of these glasses in an outdoor setting, preferably in comparison with some of the competitors at the same time, it's eye opening (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Addendum...why I'm not looking for a Nikon 8x30e2 for myself?...I have a whopping 76mm interpupillary distance...like most glasses the Nikon maxes out at 72 mm. Dammit.

flintlocke,

I used to have that one. But I got what I call "The old man quiver" and could no longer see the wire in the fence about 150 yards away. I tried some nice 7X and can see the wire again.
Now I use 7X. As soon as I can afford to I will upgrade to 7X Leica or one of the other good brands.

If I had your money? I'd throw mine away. Leica...never a bad choice.
