Hereabouts, it's a long time out getting a locker to butcher. We have a mid May date made last September.

When I was a kid, in the 50's and 60's I don't think there was a house in the county (with electricity) that didn't have a chest freezer. Where else were we going to keep frozen game and other frozen food. I do remember there being locker plants in town --usually at butcher shops, but not near big enough and too costly .
A new 15 cu.ft. freezer was one of the first things my wife and I bought for our home. We still using it 49 years later. They never wear out.
When it is time to see what is on the bottom we take the old frozen meat over to Red Lodge to the zoo or whatever it is called.

One year I was digging around in the bottom and found a 6 1/2 lb. Brown Trout that I caught that summer and was keeping it to have it mounted. I ended up using it as Coon
bait that fall. I couldn't have afforded to have it mounted anyway.
