The heavily Democratic Nevada legislature is trying to pass SJR8, a constitutional amendment that is “Proposing to amend the Nevada Constitution to guarantee equal rights.” The essential part of the legislation is this paragraph: “RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, JOINTLY, That a new section, designated Section 24, be added to Article 1 of the Nevada Constitution to read as follows: Sec. 24. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this State or any of its political subdivisions on account of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry or national origin.” This may seem a sensible thing to propose, but please read this letter I sent to all of the Nevada State Senators: ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Senators: I have several reasons to oppose SJR8. First, we should not be altering our Constitution for any legislation when the consequences are unknown. It is just too difficult to modify or "fine tune" SJR8 when unintended consequences become known. For example, look at how biological males are currently dominating female sports - if you care about women's rights at all, you should see the injustice in this! Second, the loss of religious liberty is TOTALLY unacceptable. Your proposed legislation will force churches and individual pastors to perform religious services with and for people whose life choices and practices go against their sincerely held religious beliefs. All those who are true to their beliefs will have to stop practicing their religion for fear of incarceration. The outcome of this aspect of your legislation is clear - you will be putting a de facto ban on dozens (or hundreds) of religions in the state of Nevada. Finally, children's safety could be in jeopardy as restrooms and locker rooms are opened to both genders. Almost certainly, there will be many who will take advantage of this legislative impact for their own purposes. We have enough child sex trafficking in Nevada as it is. PLEASE don't make it easier for these people! Please vote NO on SJRJ8 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ !!!ANY NEVADA RESIDENT READING THIS THREAD PLEASE EMAIL YOUR CONCERNS TO THESE NEVADA STATE SENATORS: <James.Ohrenschall sen.state.>, <Roberta.Lange sen.state.nv.us>, <Nicole.Cannizzaro sen.state.>, <Heidi.Gansert sen.state.nv.us>, <Carrie.Buck sen.state.nv.us>

The scariest part is 'equality of rights shall not be abridged.......based on national origin.
That would give every alien resident, legal or otherwise, full constitutional rights, including the right to vote.
The language could well be construed to mean one does not even need be a resident to be assured of these rights.

kwg Reid isn't in the picture at all. This is a concoction by the Washoe County (Reno) and Clark County (Las Vegas) Kalipornya transplants who now outnumber heavily those of us with roots here. They've already altered our Constitution in NV to mandate 100% renewable electrical power by 2035. This is just a start for NV. Thank you, Kalipornya transplants and economic refugees.

Yep, seven generations my family have called Nevada home. I would be willing to leave but I could never pull the wife away from our kids and granddaughter.

That's generally why the Equal Rights amendment to the US constitution never got ratified. People saw through the smoke screen.

I hope your letter is influential (along with many others) and that they do not approve that legislation. But then, does a person have any explicit "right" to compete in a specific sport contest, or a "right" to be married specifically by a pastor as compared to just getting married, etc,??
the bathroom access deal simply floors me - why would any sane and moral society enable perverts any such access?

I sure don't see "political affiliation" on that list... That would mean they would have to stop persecuting conservatives.

Good letter! Keep it up and please let us know if you get any personal responses from them. Let's pray for the right results. These politicians need to get up and do their jobs against these girlie Psychopaths. Who on Earth would ever believe that we'd hear and see this? https://banthis.tv/watch?id=6036ef66159a671a0f54a32eAnd there's actually republicans that say that I go to far pointing these things out. Republicans in the camp. YES, 2 of them even in this thread. I'm not naming names, but if your initials aren't NV and IDS, it isn't you. Lol

Czech, I understand your concerns, you make some good points. But, I think there is the other side of the coin to consider. Why did the militant feminism movement drop it's demands for an equal rights amendment? Because so called minorities, female, persons of color, etc. would lose the advantages they currently enjoy in hiring, small business loans, govt contracts, divorce laws, reduced physical strength requirements for women and people of small stature, and on and on. Hiring and promotion advantages for women and people of color would be gone at the stroke of a pen. Equal means...equal, to the courts. Might be the best thing ever to happen to cops, firemen, EMT's.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

That's generally why the Equal Rights amendment to the US constitution never got ratified. People saw through the smoke screen. Back then NV was the swing vote and declined to vote ratification. How things have changed! Idaho's legislature initially voted to ratify it by an overwhelming majority in both houses. The people started screaming so they stepped back and looked at what they've voted for. Then, as more info came out on what it really entailed, they rescinded their ratification as did 4 or 5 other states.

Laws and Legislation restrict and control the actions of The People. The Constitution restricts the actions of the Government. This is a proposed amendment to the State Constitution, not Civil Rights Legislation Unless the “church” is a subdivision of the State, then the State Constitution has no control over it. Unless a bathroom is owned or managed by the State, or a subdivision of the State, then the State Constitution has no control over that bathroom. . 24. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this State or any of its political subdivisions

More and more we see judges changing the laws to make restrictions on governments apply to restrictions on the people. This thing would mean whatever a liberal judge says it means.
