This part is over the top because they really start to let you know that Someone else is involved besides Eli. The extra references to the Book, and God was added by Washington as the production staff just wanted another shootem up secular movie. He said no to the movie UNLESS he can convey a Christian message. Of course it wasn't a Christian movie, but it was the best post apocalyptic movie ever made, because of his influence. Denzel should have been listed as co-script writer too.
I'll always remember that from the 80s(?). I liked the theme of the underdog using a clever modified weapon in a brutal way to defeat the guy who went on to become the worst villain of the Highlander movies. A man is measured by the strength of his enemies theme.
