Honestly what is Wyoming like, weather wise? I know winters aren't exactly mild but how long and harsh is it?

Harsh is dependent on user view. Woke up to three inches of snow and started work at about 0. By noon it was a balmy 20.

Wind the past month has been ridiculous. Several days of 60-80 mph.

Wyoming is proud of its town's populations and elevations.
You'll drive and drive through absolute nothingness for miles,...then you'll see a sign that says:
Fritters Wyoming Population 11 Elevation 5400 Feet
There will be 3 houses in view for a moment. Then you're driving through absolute nothingness again until you get to the next "town".

A town is a bar and post office... nothing else required

There are lots of awesome rocks on the West side. I don't guess you would ever have to buy materials to build a house.

I could be happy in Wyoming if it wasn't so damn cold.

I must live near a big town we have 2 bars and a post office. Cold, windy and can snow most any month depending on elevation. You can grow a garden if you have a green house or hoop house. You also need water, many houses have cisterns because no water. Love Wyoming.

Out working in -20 degree windchill weather in the Oilfield south of Rock Springs this morning. After the misery was over with, saw elk, deer, antelope and wild horses from the highway on the way in. And nobody on the road. That’s why I live here.

Harsh is dependent on user view. Woke up to three inches of snow and started work at about 0. By noon it was a balmy 20. But I can still be surprised at how pleasant it can be here when it’s 20 degrees if it’s sunny with no wind. This winter had been really nice until two weeks ago. We went 7 days here in Cody without the temperature getting above zero but that’s the first time I’ve seen that here. Anyone saying it’s 10 months of winter with 2 months of skeeters really hasn’t spent much time here.

Having come from many years in Los Angeles, I appreciate 4 significant differences about driving in Wyoming;
1: If you drank too much coffee & are now spending hours driving to your destination, you can pull over & pee ANYWHERE. No one is around. You don’t have to buy someone’s product to get into a locked public restroom & avoid arrest for public urination while surrounded by defecating/urinating homeless people who will not be addressed whatsoever.
2: No one is likely to flip you off or cut you off or shoot at you without provocation.
3: If you’re broken down on the side of the road & need help the next person by will probably stop. (Though that may be a while. In California you’ll be passed by several hundred cars a second & could grow a long beard before anyone stopped.
4: If you’ve been driving for three hours you’ve probably covered 200 miles as opposed to 24.

There’s a lot of strong wind seasonally but a lot of calm days too.
