So, normally my wife has it down to roughly a thousand dollars back or paying in every year because, well, fuuck giving .gov a free loan.
This year, due to coronapocslypse happenings, that wasn't done.
I was worried we would owe a lot, but we're getting a larger return than usual.
The coffee is hot, the weather's warming up, and it's a beautiful morning.

Canโt remember last time we got a return. Iโm with you, Iโd rather pay in and know they didnโt get to use my money interest free.

I have been writing a check to the IRS for about the last 9 or 10 yrs. Usually in the 4 k range. It cost me a 75 buck penalty when I file cause of " non withholding" bullschit for their greedy dick beaters they dont receive when they want it. It was explained nicer that that, but that is how I see it. One yr before I retired from the civilian world. Unca suga held 17 k in fed tax alone not including all the other taxes. And I still had to write a check for a little over 5k to em at tax time that yr. Paid off alot of bills on that job and got myself into a position to retire for good very comfortable with a big cushion within me and khans means. When the daughters were in the house the child tax credit allowed us to get a return, but I was also still in the military or working intial civilian jobs after my retirement from the Army.
But folks that work and pay taxes can only claim a kid under 17. While welfarites can claim under 18 or 19 kids IIRC for EIC and child tax credit crap. I might be wrong about the under 18 or 19 child tax credit for welfarites. Fugg em anyways...
If that aint backwards I dont know what is.
All us taxpaying types have 0 kids that are 17 or 18 I geuss living in the house going to high school I geuss.
But yet the welfarites are rewarded credits tax payers dont get. And I am tired of paying for those who do the least but yet have the right to vote.
Thats some backwards azz schitt also.

๐ I always try for a $0 transaction, this year $1000 back. Trying harder for next year.

Since my wife's a CPA, I don't do much in regards to filing, but she's usually pretty good at getting us close to zero. She really, really hates giving them a free loan, and that stupid penalty you get if you have to pay more than $xxxx (even if you pay on-time) pisses her off way out of proportion to the amount. I think that's a feature, not a bug. ๐

Should have mine ready to go to CPA this week. Just got another "corrected" 1099 and a 1095 or such yesterday.
Between Vet Clinic partnership, farm partnership with my brother, farm stuff on my own, and our personal return it's a ridiculous amount of paper.

Filed last week and also thought we would owe. The old lady got laid off for 4 months this year due to covid and normally unemployment takes out the bare minimum for taxes. We ended still receiving a return so I was thrilled.

Lawsuits, fraud, market volatility... are the risks to assets people seem to worry and focus on the most.
The IRS is probably the biggest risk to your assets.

Paying income tax to a government that is at war with it's own citizens is a tough pill to swallow. When I was entering the job market, consensus was, "you don't get rich working for the government". That was bad information. Lol
@jameslavish
If you work 40 hrs/wk: at 5% inflation and after 5 years, you need a 28% pay raise or to work 44 more hours (*one full extra week* per month+) to make up the difference.
This is inflation

CPA did ours yesterday. If you are eligible for any stimulus, they will deduct that from the amount that you owe. Saved me $300, yay.
