Here's my girl, Bailey during the deep freeze...

Always full of life. Totally lived to run with us as we fed the cows, and go to the gate. Quite the hunter! smile

But less than a week ago, we nearly lost her. frown

Was feeding the cows on the Mule, and she was running alongside as always. She stopped to dig at a gopher hole, and as I drove past, she jumped up and ran right under the wheels of the Mule. No time to stop. None. Just bam!

Shattered her femur. There was nothing left of it.

Vet kept her 3 days, and amputated her left rear leg.

She's got a horrible surgery scar.

She was sure glad to get home! smile Jumped right up on her couch on the front porch.

She's got a good appetite, and is healing. She's also having to wear a cone most of the time to keep her from picking at the stitches.

She'll be able to do what she did before. Maybe not as fast, but we are just glad she's still with us!

Breaks my heart that this accident happened. But she's a tough girl, and loves being back at the ranch, and loves life. That is all any of us can ask.

She's family.

We can learn so much from dogs. They will never sit around feeling sorry for themselves. They just want to eat, play, have fun and love their family. Glad she's on the mend.

The resiliance of animals is incredible. With the same injury , most people would spend weeks in the hospital, months in rehab and years feeling sorry for themselves as they sit around collecting disability. She will be back to normal activities soon and running around like nothing ever happened.

Glad she's on the mend.

Thank you!

She's doing well. She can run up and down the several steps to the house, and get around to feed the animals with us.

After she's healed up with the surgery, she'll be able to run around the ranch again. She'd like to now, but she's restricted to the yard pretty much.

Damn! That is tough. She’ll bounce back though! At least she has a good owner to take care of her while she’s recuperating.

So sorry to hear this! Our little fellow also had some surgery on the same leg (only he didn't lose it). Nasty scar and he can't deal with the cone! It sucks watching them struggle. I was up most of the night with him cleaning up the drainage and just comforting him. Also trying to keep some bandages of some kind on it takes some real talent! Gotta give those vets a lot of credit for knowing how to wrap them so it stays on!

I hope your little guy does well, he seems to be off to a good start! So glad he's getting another chance!

That is a tough one. Dogs are a big part of our lives. Glad she was able to survive. Interesting how they adapt and drive on, and still enjoy being dogs. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Glad she's ok. I had a yellow lab that got hit by a car. Had to remove the front left leg. Out of surgery, recovered from the anasthesia and went on with lifeime nothing was different. Dogs have huge hearts andface adversity with a smile.
