In my experience one has to look at the individual scope. I've looked through some highly thought of Vipers that totally lost image at the higher magnifications.
I've got a low magnification Diamondback I love. Not perfect but does a damn good job for me in the woods. Wouldn't think of using that scope anywhere else though.

I've never owned a Vortex scope although I've looked through a number of them. The Razor line seems to be very good and I know a bunch of people who use and like them. I've not been impressed by the lower end models.

Sounds like junk... I'll stick to my Night Force and Schmidt Bender's.

I've generally had good luck with 2-7 vipers with the BDC reticle. Size, weight, clarity, resolution - all of that.
That being said, I was working with a different load Thursday, & wanted to get 1/4" down. My 1 click gave 1", and it wouldn't budge.
Set & forget: they work fine.

Some folk I very highly regard the opinion of say PASS. Although the price points are attractive, I follow their recommendations on Vortex.

I recently started replacing scopes after needing to wear glasses. I bought 3 of the cheaper Vortex's and they seemed fine. I bought another and the reticle hash marks were off and the parallax was a little tough to dial out. I spoke to their CS and as I had read they were fantastic. Very friendly and popped for shipping to them, but as I had read they kept it a few days and sent it back saying they returned the parallax to factory settings (I couldn't figure out how trying to dial out the parallax somehow screwed up the factory setting). They didn't address the reticle problem at all and pretty much did nothing but waste my time and sent back a scope that's almost impossible to dial the parallax out of. I'll be getting rid of all the Vortex scopes and replacing them with Athlon probably. The Athlons are heavy but they work great and Athlons CS is awesome. I bought a discontinued model for $250 but it wouldn't hold zero. I sent it back and they replaced it with a new $800 dollar model as they weren't producing the Gen 2 models of what I had. I was very impressed!! Anyway, I'm done with Vortex!
Proper prior practice prevents piss poor performance!

You guys are a riot. I have a PST 2 Viper and love it. Probably buying another for my 6mm. Cannot afford nightforce on every gun...

I tested 2 Brand new of that model vortex, both had 3/4 moa of right reticle travel at 20 moa of travel. Yours may or may not have the issue. Most people would not shoot their gun in a manner to discover it. Or if they did they would probably think it’s a gun problem. Either way windage movement of the reticle when dialing elevation is a tracking fail.

Cummins, I've stretched it 1000+ yards on steel with no issue. I can't say the mechanics are as stout as nightforce, but I actually like the scope better.

The Razor Gen II and III's are great but a bit on the heavy side, but very robust, if that your thing. The Razor AMG and Razor HD LHT's are outstanding in both weight and capability. The Viper PST Gen II's are OK, with the 1-6 being very, very good, and 90% of the Razor 1-6 at 50% of the price. Then the rest of the PST Gen II get worse ( on a price/performance measurement) as you go up the zoom range.
The rest of the Vortex scope line is hit or miss.
IMHO and YMMV

Maybe on a beater rimfire that you don’t depend on. LOL A Vortex product is akin to having a slutty "girlfriend"... Use it for what it's worth, don't be surprised when it lets you down, it will, and upgrade for depenability when you can. 😜

Any opinions on Vortex scopes? They have lines that range in price from the $100's to the $2000s. Which line are you asking about?
