A friend ran across some Vectan reloading powder the other day. Has anyone tried any of it?

It is quite popular in Europe and I have used it a lot with good results.

In the past it was common to see large swings from lot to lot but not anymore.

Let me know if you have any more specfic question about ist use,

Seen it but never adventuresome enough to use it...

I prefer stuff that is good old American made or packaged...

Are you running short on powder there Randy?

In my experience SP2 is the best in the world for a particular niche application.

I prefer to use powders from Hodgdon in general because I am inclined to believe the more data the better and the easier to get more the better. That is my current stock of SP2 may be all I ever see again before I die - I'm 76. Be that as it may Vectan is as good as anything from St. Marks or IMR IF you are satisfied with the data you currently have. I wouldn't be inclined to buy the powder then look for data.

Thanks for the responses.

No John, I'm fine. A friend asked me about it and I had never heard of it. Was curious, more than anything. This friend bought a lb. and was going to try it out. He got SP9, which the burn rate charts say is about the same as CFE 223 or Varget.

I bought a variety of it a while back when it was both available and 2/3 the price of Hodgdon. Just got around to loading some last weekend in the 222mag. Haven’t shot any yet but I’m hoping for good results.

I bought 4 lbs of TU7000 and have posted here for input. Not too much comment. I think as time goes on it might be more popular due to availability.

It's a lot like 4350. I don't have enough real results to share yet but I like it well enough thus far that I'll probably stick with it once it becomes widely available again. There are a couple of threads on it here. I emailed Barnes and Nosler looking for data but neither have done any work with it yet, so I use data from

https://www.grafs.com/uploads/technical-resource-pdf-file/20.pdf

and

https://www.lhs-germany.de/en/powder/smokeless-powder/vectan/tubal-7000/

It seems pretty conservative but I'm getting a solid 2,700 fps with the max charge in a couple of 30-06s with 180-grain bullets.

This could be most excellent news. It would great to build up a chart of all the powders that are marketed and sold under different names.

It's a great marketing slogan... "VECTAN, the powder to buy when you can't buy anything else."

I have a bunch of pistol powder I bought last time around (the big O'bummer shortage). I stopped using it as soon as my standby was available, because I didn't like guessing, and that's what I was doing. I could only find loads for one caliber, and I "adapted" them to another. Didn't blow up, didn't shoot great, didn't instill me with a lot of confidence. Maybe there's more data available now, dunno.

I have used sp7 and sp9. I bought a case a while back. Ball powder. Works great in under bore cartridges. I use in 30-30 and 458
