Went to see an orthopedic surgeon today.
My knees are shot and need to be replaced.
First the left one, then the right at a later date.
All sounds pretty routine, but the Doc did mention the the surgery was almost completely performed by robot.
Not too sure how I feel about that but it's not like its an option, robot or traditional Sawbones. If it were, I think I'd have went for the traditional Surgeon.

It is up to you. Go to a different doc if ya want

There's some precise measurements to get it all lined back up. I'd start asking questions if you are not sure

Wow! A robot performing a life threatening surgery!
Things sure are sci fi now aren't they?

When my knees went bad, as a young man, I stayed off the meds. No shots or anti inflammatory.
I took a combination of glucosamine, chondroitin, and HA.

Shark cartilage is supposed to work well according to some as well as ham hocks or cow leg bone broth.
There's other things id do right now in addition, but I just knocked a liter of olive oil on the floor that needs cleaned up.

I give Give mine time to heal when they get sore now. What do you have to lose if you don't get surgery immediately?

Da Vinci Surgical System - Robotic-Assisted Surgery.

Good stuff.

Been around a while.

Make sure your guy has a few hundred under his belt for your specific procedure, or walk away.

I am fast losing the ability to walk. 50 feet is about as far as I can go. Some days I need to use a walker. On the worst days I need to use one of them damn electric carts at the grocery store. Thats humiliating beyond belief!

There's some cardiac procedures they can do by going in-between the ribs rather than splitting the whole chest open. Healing up a few cuts in the muscle between ribs is an awful lot shorter healing time than waiting for your sternum to knit back together.

Pass me the robot, assuming the surgeon is proficient with it.

My 85 Dad had a hip replaced in January of 2019, he was in Portland Oregon, Doc was in Denver Colorado. Went fine with no hiccups, the hip is the best working part of my Dad’s whole body.

Dont picture an autonomous robot welding car bodies.
Think remote control.

Co-worker had knee surgery. They replaced some cartilage with some from a cadaver. To his dismay, we started questioning the origin of said cartilage and asking him if he started craving different types of food and sleeping partners etc. He's a good sport and started blaming any mistakes on his new knee.

In 2017 I had a gizmo called a TAVR installed in my aortic valve. Robotic procedure via my leg. Saved my life.

That would make it worth it.

Watch out for the PT nurse though.
Might want to pick your nurse before you start.

This is what would assist the surgeon.

I had the Da Vinci surgery to remove my prostate 13 years ago, and I can't say enough good about it. The surgeon manipulating the machine can control the instruments MUCH more precisely than is done by the human hand alone. I recovered in less that 1/2 the time it takes from the traditional surgery, and I was done with pads in six months, plus I can still get it up. That doesn't happen without the robotics precision and a skilled surgeon operator.

Do it, and don't listen to the knuckleheads who are ignorant about Da Vinci surgery.
