I found a ruger in 458 lott today in a German gun store for $1200. The rifle is absolutely beautiful. How good of a gun is it and how does that price compare to what I can find in the states?

$300 under what I see them for in the stores. They are great rifles and you wouldn't be able to build a better gun for the price. The only competitor in that range is a CZ550; which are up to $850 here in Oregon. Buy it!

You do mean a 77, not a number 1?

That makes all the difference! If it is a #1 then the price is high by $400.

I've been delerious with mine. Just a few things that are ruger type things. Wear a glove on your trigger pinky at the range with hot loads(ruger trigger gaurds cut to the bone. The trigger itself is a bit baggy but thats nothing a honing doesnt cure. RP 375 brass blown out will give longer service for less $ and be more accurate. Through the ruger mounts in file 13 and put a set of warnes on from brownells. Like all rugers you wont shoot 1/4 moa all day, but you will be every bit as accurate as needs be and rugged as ell

Mine in 416 has been reliable and accurate. $1200 sounds like a great deal. I paid $1500 for my M77 back in '93! M77 .416 Rigby top, 458 Lott #1 bottom:

What amazes me about the M77. From a company that is synonymous with "Big and Beefy" I have been impressed with the slim, handy little M77. Now if we could get them to work on their handgun line.

SakoAlberta,
That No.1 is a BEAUT.
I've got a RSI in .30-06 with some walnut close to yours.
Only God could make something so beautiful,

FreeDumb. Thanks, it is nice, I wasn't really looking for a 458 Lott #1 until I saw the wood! Be sure to post pics of yours once you can. Here's another shot of the buttstock(shows the grain but the other pic is better at showing the actual darkness of the wood):

My RSI's wood doesn't hold a candle to your No.1 !!!! My .458 LOTT is great for a lazy guy like me, I love to shoot, but don't get near as much enjoyment out of cleaning them. But I do love the smell of Hoppes No.9. (I use it for aftershave)

Shot two deer in two years with two shots, realized that a No.1 is all you need.
Still love to buy rifles anyway!!

Sweet little rig.
For non dangerous game, i would bever feel handicapped with a SS. Its the first that really counts and, with practise, the second isn't as slow as some would think anyway!
