Hi all,

I just took my 550 in 270 Win out for a spin yesterday to test some ammo. I tried the following:

Hornady 130 Gr SST Light Mag
Win 130 gr Ballistic Silvertip
Fusion 130 Gr

I had been using the Winchester last year and was very pleased with it (1 Hog and 1 Buck)but wanted to try some of the Fusion rounds.

The Hornady shot 1" 3 shot groups)

Winchester kept them all under an inch but the Fusion was the BIG surprise!!! 1/2 - 3/4" groups...over and over.

Anybody have similar experience and what factory ammo does your 550 like?

What does it matter what anyone else's likes?

Yours shoots fine with all three, and esp. well with the Fusions.

Load up, put the first shot where it counts, and make sure your knife is sharp.

my cz m550 in 7x57 has worked very well with plain-jane, 145-grain winchester power points. accuracy is under an inch at 100 yards and a 318-yard gong is no trouble at all for a shooter who does his part.

...I traded a Remington 788 varmit model in 22/250 that had work on it and shot several factory premium loads into less than 1/2" groups for a CZ 550FS in 7X57 Mauser (traded right here on the forum)..I had no need for the 788 but can use the CZ deer hunting here in Georgia..The CZ printed a bit better than MOA with Federal blue box (thier economy loadings), the only ammo i've tried in it so far. A nice rifle, but heavier than my tastes prefer, and the EURO style stock does nothing for my pride of ownership..

I have owned about 8 CZ's now, from .17 HMR to .416 Rigby, and they all have shot far better than average.

I know you asked about factory loads and I cannot be of help there. However, with my handloads (see attachment) the results are pretty darned good ... half inch and one groups .216 inch center-to-center at 100 yards. The rifle is a CZ 550 American in 7x57mm. The load is a 162 grain Hornady SST in Remington cases powered by H414 powder fired by Federal 210 primers. The loads are chronographed with my Chroney Beta Master. These rifles are fantastically accurate, although for me, the bullets had to be seated way out there (3.295 inch overall length) to get that accuracy. Tom Purdom

Thanks to all who replied.

I haven't tried reloads yet, but plan to in the coming months. I have New Winchester Brass, Nosler Ballistic Tips, just no primers and powder yet. Right now I'm working on some .223.

Regarding the CZ 550, about the only thing I would change is have a wider trigger and I also would prefer to be able to mount the scope a bit lower as I like a good tight cheek weld.

I have not hunted with the Fusion ammo yet, hopefully it will be as effective on deer and hogs as last years ballistic tips were!
