From top to bottom in the order I bought them: Savage 219L-D, 30-30, $130 on 2/13/2003, made in 1965 Savage 219, 30-30, $150 on 3/12/2012, made in 1946 Savage 219, 30-30, $275 on 1/19/2013, made in 1940 Savage 219, 30-30, $125 in 12/20/2013, made in 1945 Savage 219, 30-30, $190 in 03/24/18 made in 1945 And two 16 ga barrels and three 12 gauge barrels. I am thinking about rebarreling one to a higher velocity round for long range deer hunting.

Quite the collection! I sometimes wish I still had my early 219 in 25-20WCF. If I could find one with a 32-20 barrel, I'd jump on it! I might even settle for a 22 Hornet with the grooves for a scope.

I owned a 219 in 30-30 Improved for a time. Loading the Sierra 125 grain pointed soft tip bullet produced 2580 f.p.s. at the muzzle. Accuracy was typically 2 inches at 100 yards which meant certain death for whitetails in the deer woods of Pennsylvania. But it was traded away - so it goes.

I think an open sighted 30-30, 219 would be a good walking around rifle.

Black Nitride treatment to the steel. Linseed oil and wax to the wood.

Looks like a pretty good "walking around rifle" right there! RJ

My favorite is still my Utica-made 220 .410 with an added Utica-made .22 Hornet barrel that I found at a gunshop near LL Beans in Maine about 40 years ago. The Hornet was near new and unrusted and factory D&T for a Weaver side mount and sitting in a "barrel of barrels" in the corner of the shop. Popped right onto my .410 frame. It's been poppin' ever since!
219/220 is perfect in its own way!
NEAT collection!
I had a friend in Idaho who had a 219 rechambered to .30-40 Krag that he used to take a meat elk every year. Still had 12 of the original ctgs., and had used the rifle for at least five kills.
Was Mike Armstrong. Got logged off; couldn't log back on. RE-registered my old call sign, Mesa. FNG. Again. Mike Armstrong

Considering its age and el cheapo origins, it performs reasonably well:

When I was 12 in 1963, there was a break action 22 Hornet on the rack in front of the counter at Bill and Ard's sporting goods.
I could only dream of owning that rifle.

Over the years, I've read of several rechambered to 30-40. No idea about durability. I'd stick with 30-30 and pointed bullets for longer range.

I was about to say: 1) My overload handi rifle calculations and test 45/70 https://rec.guns.narkive.com/tIUDxC0G/nef-rifle-45-70-govt-vs-marlin-1895-guide-gun2) By similarity my overload test without calculations of Wards Hercules 410 with 460 Casull double loads with 405 gr bullets and H110 in a longer case. 3) By similarity my overload test of Sav 219 with 30-30 Double loads of H335 with 220gr bullet. Then I realized..... My Wards Hercules 410 is a Savage 220 and the my 219 barrels have the same shape.... might fit..... I just checked and they do. The Wards is not hammerless, though, but interchangeable barrels. BCP's post just expanded my Savage 219 parts collection. Hodgdon H110 405 gr .458 lead 40 gr H110 2.75" .... recoil broke the Wards 410 stock at the wrist

Reading the link in your post reminded me of a single shot 20ga I bought at Walmart in the late 80's. Don't recall the brand but everytime I fired it the breach would open. I just thought it was the way the gun was designed for faster reloading. Killed many a rabbit with that gun.

That's a fine collection Clarkm. I recently acquired a Utica 219 with a ,model 220 12 gauge barrel, but no rifle barrel. Currently on the hunt for any caliber barrel in any condition.

I have I think five M-219's as well as a bunch of parts. If I ever go to a savage-fest, the parts are going with me and they are not coming back. I have 3 .30-30's, one of which is Ackley Imp. A .22 Hornet and a .25-20. The .25-20 will be buried with me... Also have a 220 in .410 as well as an extra .410 barrel, a 20 ga, barrel and a 12 ga. barrel with fore-end. Shotgun barrels will be sold, as well... As I'm too old to tromp the fields, I've no use for a shotgun, any more. And have not shot Trap & Skeet for 25 years or so. GH

GH Grasshopper, If you're ready to sell, I'm interested in the shotgun barrels. I would also be interested in a rifle or two.
