Anyone have any experience with one? Came across one with a frozen trigger. Pulled it apart and cleaned it up. Wondering if it’s worth buying ammo for to test its accuracy or just send it down the road.

Depends on if you have a use for such an animal. I’ve skipped the Hummer because it’s too pricey for plinking and I have other stuff better for my hunting. The 5 is useful for the same stuff as a.22 mag and ammo is available.

Not a huge fan of the 580-590 series myself, but I have had a 581 since 1967 and it’s certainly functional and reliable. On the other hand, if you can flip the 591 at a good profit......

Have two - a centerfire conversion and an unconverted one. They are very accurate but as others have mentioned nothing some other magnum rimfires can’t accomplish currently (i.e. .17s and .22 magnum) with the much expanded ammo lines that are being produced. With the 5mm you are stuck with Aguila, very expensive original ammo or converting to centerfire and none of those options are really economical or very smart for that matter (so take this response from the latter😁🥴)!

Maybe I’ll pick up a couple boxes and see how accurate it is. I have a few 22mags and love them. Having an oddball is ok if it’s a shooter.

Have a 591 I inherited. Seem to.be harder on groundhogs than a 22 mabye a little more accurate than the magnum. I like it because it's different, lots of people never heard of it.

Late to the party. But I hope you ended up snagging the rifle at a good price. They are definitely bringing premium price these days.

The 5mm RRM is not what most people think when they think rimfire. I was fortunate enough to pick up both a 591M and a 592M at a great price just weeks before the general shooting public heard about the first run of Centurion's new ammo. They remain unaltered, and, as such, the triggers leave some to be desired. The tube-fed 592M (mine) is more accurate than the591M. The original Centurion ammo runs the 30-grainer through the chrono at just dead nutz 2400 fps. That's seriously bad news for stuff up to 50 lbs or so. My current best on a groundhog is 280 lasered yards. I am certain the gun will do farther on a calm day.

The 5mm is the round that should have been.
It is to rimfires what the 284Win is to center fires.
A should have been.

I have a 592 and quite a bit of old 38 grain Remington and Peters factory ammo. The 38 grain ammo shoots better groups than the Centurion ammo. The 5MM RM was a nice cartridge, but like a lot of nice cartridges, it didn't develop enough consumer interest and when Remington stopped making ammo for it, it nearly died.

One put out a friends eye some years back. I’ve never owned or messed with one much. Apparently there is a plate on the side of the chamber held on with screws. This was blamed as it blew off striking him in the eye. At some point Remington acknowledged or at least discussed the problem.

Never did hear the result of friends brother’s situation, he retired years ago and moved to new area. Haven’t seen him since.

Nessmuk is spot on, I sold both of mine to a friend because I don't hunt much anymore is great on foxes & rabbits he has shot fallow deer and small pigs with it. It was a round that should have been offered in other rifles, like mny I believe Winchester messed up by not offering the 17 WSM in 20 cal
