I think I’ll put whatever scope on my rifles I want and I’m happy to not have that idiot build my rifle.

He's Right... Want Be Building One For Me..

He is flat wrong when he says a Ti action is 3x the price of a Defiance AnTi. I see his point about building a very light rifle and not putting a massive scope on it though but to each his own.

I'm putting together a rifle now that should be about a pound lighter scoped...with a Remington 700 action.



If I was a gunsmith and someone wanted to fork out the kinda money he probably gets for a build...and they wanted to put a 3 pound scope on it.....well. I'd still take their money and build them the rifle. Lol.



Putting a Freedom line scope on a rifle with a $1000 custom action should be criminal. And I'm a Leupold fan.

I have seen him before. He is very set in his ways and so full of himself he might be the Alaskan midget's dad. Anything that is not "his way" is garbage, He stopped learning a long time ago. He was probably at the height of his competency in the 1980s.

The real Youtube gunsmith.....

I've thought I should start my own You Tube channel. I'm better looking, have a sparkling personality, am well-spoken for a man with no education, and am a passable gunsmith. At some point, I might want to do a segment with Kirsten Joy Weiss; any venue.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I was re-working an old Turkish Mauser, turning it into a small ring action and I thought, "This is the sort of project that would be great on You Tube". I would edit out the part where I was trying the bolt in the stripped receiver and, when I tipped the receiver up to look at the face, the bolt slipped out and landed on the top of my foot. The effect was exacerbated by my choice in footwear that day (old slippers). I could also edit out the time I spend looking for the micrometer I have in my hand. Some people may be fascinated to see how a self-confessed klutz, like myself, could, nonetheless, make a good living as a gunsmith. I could be the Red Green of the gunsmithing world (A sunshade I fashioned from aluminum flashing and duct tape would be worth a segment on it's own). The occasional trek out to the range might be a bit anti-climatic when I leave the bolt back on the workbench but the commentary might be entertaining.
By the way, I agree with him on putting appropriate sighting equipment on lightweight rifles. Light rifles recoil at a higher velocity and can be hard on mounts. Especially if one puts a heavy scope in those POS Talley 1 piece mounts. In a case like this, the heavy scope is the gift that keeps on giving. To combat the inertia of the scope you can use a good, rugged set of tacticool rings attached to a steel rail. Guys who prefer big heavy scopes also seem to like bipods so might as well put one of those on too. Of course when you consider that most guys will only carry it from the truck to the bench, I reckon it doesn't matter. GD
