For rifle - either H or IMR 4350

This is the one powder I have pretty much narrowed my big game rifles down to sans my 270Win using RL26 and 150gr. LRAB's.

243Win/100gr. Hornady, Daughter's 270 Win/129gr. LRX and my 30-06/165gr. Speer Grand Slam or TTSX. Shoots at least MOA with all and a little better with most!

I stocked up when the gettin was good and am pretty well set forever!

Damn...a new record, 20 year old thread! Another for IMR 4064, here's powders that work better for individual cartridges, but I have loads with that work across a broad range of cartridges...270, 308, 348, 356, 358 Wins, 35 and 280 Rems, 300 Savage, etc....

IMR 4350 , it’s been around for a long time. Probably not the best in a lot of calibers, but will do. Hasbeen

Cool to see that powders that would cover bases 20 years ago still do. H4831 here.

Put a gun to my head and I would pick Varget. For my CF rifle needs, great in most, ok in some, work in a pinch in others. Please, oh lord, let me have some other powders too!

Varget, but I am a 308 win and below kinda guy. Like everyone, I dig the 223, 260, 308. Short actions for me.

At one time on a planet far, far away I tried to simplify my rifle powder stock. I had a different powder for each cartridge, and if I remember correctly it was about 6 different powders. After a frustrating year, I ended up with three. H-1000, H-4350, and RL-15. I still have a few pounds of others but these three amount to my primary supply. I could drop the 4350 if I wanted to give up 1/2 groups in my 300 WM, and use H-1000, but I still have plenty of the 4350. I will not, nor will I ever have to, reduce to one only.

I'd take IMR-4198. Works well in everything from 223 to 45-70 and all the other calibers where I enjoy shooting cast lead bullets.
