Quite a few guys here claim they kick the crap out of you. I don't shoot one but shoot everything around it with no trouble. I'm sure it'll be just fine.

I hunt with my 99F in .308 and love it. I also enjoy target shooting it and its one of my most used 99. I don't feel it has an unpleasant recoil no matter the load. Some people do find it unpleasant though.
Look for normal gun things, bore condition, tang cracks, etc

tang safety were all factory D&T'd, but no recoil pads for the 308's, tang cracks were always an aftermarket option too.

Another ? stock has some discolor or staining at the bottom kinda like big spots. Could this stock be a salt cure stock? Just asken never seen one did not know if Savage done that. Don't asks why this pop into my head but it did.
Thanks,Fred

Savage didn't have salt cure stocks. Odds are that somebody sat the buttstock in something and it soaked in, that somebody wiped the stock down with something and it ran down after being stood against a wall, or that somebody drenched the inside of the receiver with oil and it ran down after being stood against a wall. Usually it's only cosmetic..

A 300 Weatherby kicks, a 308 99F doesn't I would rather shoot my 300 Win Mag all day than shoot any 308 F I have ever owned 3x in a row. Just sayin...

When I shot my 308 pre mil F's, the next day my hair, my teeth and my toenails hurt. Curiously I have a 308 DL that doesn't weight any more than any F, that is a pleasure to shoot.
Guns fit people differently. Anybody that has done any amount of shooting understands that.

My dad had a 308E I think has been gone a long time. But I do remember shooting it as a teen and brothers younger than I we all loved shooting it. Put a lot of meat on the table. This one just came around for second time I think it need me as I need it. Sounds crazy I know. Told the sell I would take it.
