The Colt thread go me to thinking, can you shoot 32 shorts in a S&W 32 long? I Know the longs would be better. Power wise, just pondering this, never owned a 32
Long, but did own a 32 h&r short also have Black powder pistol that has a 32 short cylinder.

Sure can. This is not a recommendation, but 32 ACP will work in a pinch as well.

You can use .32 S&W, .32 Short Colt, .32 Colt New Police and .32 ACP in a .32 S&W Long revolver. Probably no official source will endorse the .32 ACP, but I have done it with no ill effects.

Thanks fellows, I thought so, but never tried it! I may go and take a harder look at the S&W Long this week!

John, .32 Long is one of the best kept secrets in terms of fun per pounds of lead. To properly explore the accuracy potential, shoot for a quality revolver- S&W made a K-32 target revolver but they're awfully bloody expensive when you find them, ditto Colt with their Officers Model- but it doesn't have to be as high class as all that. A S&W M1903 Hand Ejector in one of the later variants, or a J-frame of even later vintage, will make you smile. A Colt Police Positive (or much better yet, a Police Positive Special) will have you grinning too. I'll bring a collection of them to Noxen for you to try out.

Bullet jump from case mouth to throat, as in .32 Short in a Long chamber, or .32 Long in a .32 Mag chamber, doesn't spell finest accuracy typically, but sometimes examples show up to make a liar out of me.

Four pounds of lead and 1/10th pound of Bullseye will buy you around 300 shots. (You're on your own for primers!)

Yeah, .32ACP's with their semi-rimmed cases will work in a .32 Long revolver, but mind you they are hot loads compared to what most vintage revolvers were designed for. I've done it to say I did it but wouldn't make a regular practice of it.

The .32 ACP is only about 3kpsi higher than S&W Long...I can't think of a single revolver that is likely to suffer ill effects from the hotter .32.

But gnoahhh is right, the .32 S&W (long or short) are an absolute joy on the target range.

I swaped into the 32 long today, it's a S&w 31-1, they have had it awhile, there's No 32 long stuff around here. I have a 100 cases and bullets on there way, off Gun broker. Cases I can get bullets might be harder. Anyone be have anything 32 long pm me. gun has some carrie wear, but still think it's 75 percent or better, grips are stamped with the seri# H3758x does have a small engraved S.SH on the frame, between the cyc. And trigger. Nicely done. Very well balance 3" barrel. Going to be used and shot !

If you fire a .32 Short Colt cartridge in either a .32 S&W or .32 S&W Long revolver, as wildhobbybobby suggests you can, the case will bulge/split. The .32 Short and Long Colt cartridges are smaller in diameter than the Smith & Wesson .32s. I've tried it and DO NOT recommend it

Cool little gun, I’m weird but I’d rather one of them that a 22 rimfire M34 as a trail gun. If you can’t find bullets you could get into casting pretty cheap with a small ladle pot and the Lee 90gr SWC mold. It’s a tumble lube design which should be fine for the 32 and will keep your investment down. I run them through my sized and they’re incredibly accurate out of my 32 magnum. They are a great small game bullet too.

Why would you want to shoot a 32 ACP in a 32 long chamber? I have a Savage 1917 in 32 ACP and a Simth mod 16 in 32 long. Seldom ever shoot the 32 ACP and absolutely love the 32 long.

John, I have a couple .32 molds, a SWC and RN. I'll cast a hat full for you next time I'm doing it, maybe in a week or so.

Sure you can. I just did that last week, since all the store had was .32 S&W (what you're calling shorts).

Easier to find 32ACP at the LGS than 32s&w or 32 Long.

Have not done so myself. But I have been told by folks very knowledgeable on the subject that 32 acp runs quite well in 327 revolvers. If it will run in 327, it will run in 32 mag or 32 long.

I prefer to put my mouse loads in 327 brass.

Next thing you know some schmuck will put a box of .32ACP through an old Hand Ejector and be hating life afterward.

i recently added a 327mag barrel to my bond arms derringer kit because i can find 32short and long ammo at reasonable, prepanic, prices. i really like shooting these two rounds. i’m not a magnum fan in any caliber, except 22mag in a longer barrel, so i doubt will bother with 327mag or 32mag. b.a. directly informed me to never shoot 32acp, no further explanation even when i pressed. i wish that taurus would offer its affordable 856 six shot revolver in 32long, which would be a decent enough ccw choice for recoil averse, (who often are seen as more vulnerable prey, e.g. ladies, elderly, infirm), who don’t want or can’t afford or can’t even find the few 327mag or 32mag options on the market now.

Taurus made a run of 32 long in 3” and 4” in 2014. One sold at auction for over $700 last month
