So I picked up a Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 and a Nikon Prostaff 2-7×32 to top it off. I bought Warne Steel split rings to mount it on the factory scope base. I've never used this type of split ring before but I wanted something robust for a working gun.

When I mounted the scope I noticed the rings didn't seem to snug up very well on the factory base. The scope didn't really get tight until the very last bit of torque was applied to the screws. And I tightened every screw as tightly as I dared because of this.

Fast forward to after sighting it in and maybe 30 shots total. This afternoon I killed a decent sized hog with it. I got a little mud on the scope and when I wiped it off the whole scope and rings slid on the base. It is lose enough to just push back and forth in the slots. So obviously something about this combination is a no go but I'm scratching my head over it because they should theoretically be compatible.

I guess I'm gonna have to try a different aftermarket base or find new rings.

Did you try loosining the top screws and tightening the bottom ones, then re-tighten the tops?

You need to" balance" the rings.

Maybe Warne bases for Warne rings? Doesn't make sense, but maybe . Give Warne a call, see what they might have to say.

Warnes have always worked on pic rails for me?
Tighten bottom screws fully with rings pushed forward then the top ones.

Had same issue with Warnes, till I watched instruction video.

As I recall been a while had to oil screws and one was in a bind not allowing rings to clamp to mount.

Huntsman is correct, tighten the bottom screws first, then the top ones. Warne says to tighten screws to a max of 25 inch/lbs.

Okay, so I reinstalled the rings exactly as described above. Tightened the bottom screws completely and then did the top ones. It seems snug now but I thought it was tight before too. I guess time will tell if it decides to move again.

As stated by Warne....."Scope rings attach to a Picatinny or Weaver rail". That means they will be a slightly sloppy fit at the base on a picatinny rail as apposed to a Weaver rail.

As Achigan noted above, rings should be pushed forward when tightening the bottom screws.

I like Warnes, but the thingy is a PITA. I ran into a similar issue with regular Talleys, until I read the ‘structions.
