I'm wanting to shoot some light bullets out of my 308 bolt gun but am not too interested in going through extensive load development. Does anyone have a recipe using Nosler 125 gr. BT's or Hornady 125 gr HP's? Many thanks!

The Nosler #4 Reloading manual for a 125 grain ballistic tip has 37.5 to 41.5 grains of RL7, 41.5 to 45.5 grains of IMR4895, 42.5 to 46.5 grains of H335 and 47.5 to 51.5 grains of W748.

I'm working on something similar for lightweight mono's I started with Honandy 125 GMX and just shot a ladder with Win 748. Wasn't too please with the speed out of my 22" barrel, topping out just shy of 3k but did find some nice MOA nodes in there. Topped out at 51grns with a little bit of stiff bolt lift. Following to see what other powders folks have found to work well with these small pills.

Cliff, try about 48 gr of Varget. Works for me with NAB's.

If you want to shoot a few of mine to test let me know. (I'll just want my Lapua brass back grin)

I've shot 100gn projectiles meant for the 32S&W Long out of my 308Win, and they shoot okay. I've only shot paper so far with them. I can't recall if they are 0.311 or 0.312.

I’ve had good luck with TAC and the 125 Ballistic Tips and 130 Barnes TTSX

Good luck and have fun! Tom

I have a good supply of H-4895. I'll look at the min/max range and get something drawn up.

I think any powder you can find in that general burn rate will probably work. The .308 is a very easy to load for round and very forgiving, IME.

Is this a reduced load?

A couple of buds used to load 748 with 125 grain Ballistic Tips in their 308s.

Absolutely hammered antelopes.

I cannot find any 748. I think I'm going to use Varget, Tac and H 4895.

I'm a bit late to the thread, but on the off chance you've got more IMR 4064 than one or a couple of the others, I've had very good results in two .308's with it. I use it for 150's, so decided to try it with the 125's, as well. Worthwhile effort. Since first trying it a number of years ago with the 125 Sierra PH, I've also loaded the 125 BT, 125 AB, 130 Hdy SP, 125 Hdy GMX, and most recently, the 125 Sierra TGK. I have not tried the 125 Hdy HP. But, all of those listed did well somewhere between 44.5 and 46.5 gn. The 125 Nosler pair have a nearly identical POI with 46.0 gn, entirely interchangeable.

Varget or either 4895 have not required extensive development in the 308 win with light bullets IME. A mid load of Varget has been excellent in my rifle.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all
