When a cop intervenes and enforces a bank's rules, while ignoring the Governors mandate, he then appears that he's not working for the people but for a private business.

Maybe not.

Enforcing trespassing/intruding private property laws, not the mask mandate.

Banks says wear a mask on their property or you're not welcome. "Refuse the right to serve" signs abound, and even if not, if they asked her to leave and she didn't, that generally constituted trespass.

Many here on this forum think private property rights are basically inviolate. Does the bank have a right to say "No shirt, no shoe, no service"? Well, this bank apparently wants to add "No mask" to that list.

Do I think it could have been handled differently? Well duh, but the woman could have just walked out.

She was there to close her account.Sounds as if the manager abused his position to not allow this woman to do that.

If that cop was smart he would have told the bank manager that this is private matter between the bank and the customer.

He appears to not be smart .He also appears to be the kind of cop who will not be ignored,so he did what some stupid cops do and abused his authority to arrest.

What if she had been demanding a wedding cake for her and her girlfriend? Could the private business refuse?

Private business. Private property. Non-issue except for those looking for narrative.

She should have worn the mask long enough to get her money and then given them the big FU.

Oh yeah, mandates aren’t laws.

The cop was most likely off duty and working for the bank and doing what he was paid to do.

That arrest is gonna cost someone.

Private business gets to refuse service to anyone they want. If they require you to wear a pink tutu to enter; they have that right... And believe me, you don't want to take that right away. Imagine what cancel culture could do with that power?

Was it an " offense subject to arrest"?

Did he attempt to get her to leave peaceably? Did he explain the law to her?

If she showed up after hours and wanted her money out, would the bank be required to give it to her.

If she showed up with no ID and wanted her money out would the bank manager be required to accommodate her?

If she showed up with an obviously upset, snarling and snapping large uncontrollable dog on a leash, or a puma, would the bank manager be required to accommodate her?

In this case, the bank's property, the bank's rules.

The bank wants masks on customers, then masks are required. Just like shoes and shirts. Doesn't matter the State law.

He may not have handled it in the best way, but I see no abuse of authority.

I bet the bank manager is not the property owner.
