Looks like a fella might be able to shoot two elk in MT, starting this next fall. Senate Bill 122, authorizing issuance of B tags for antlerless elk became law in this last and now thankfully adjourned session of the Legislature. It's still up to the FWP Commission to figure out just how & where it'll be implemented, but anyway, that's good news. I was under the impression this wouldn't take effect for '03, but just read the bill and it appears it is to take effect immediately. http://data.opi.state.mt.us/bills/2003/billhtml/SB0122.htmSo; potentially two elk each, two antelope, up to three deer, birds & fish &.... Man! And then maybe bison, although we're still hoping our esteemed Governor Gramma Judy vetos that bison hunt bill. That one is a cluster.... It's more or less completely under the auspices of the Dept. of Livestock, although they are allowing FWP to at least issue the tags ;-). Although, DOL and the Stockgrowers are primary advocates of this increased game harvest. I somehow can't see that resulting in a big surge in demand for beef! Maybe they aren't doing themselves any favors after all....

You're right, we ought to have a Montana barbecue and beer session. Brad & I have briefly discussed getting together, but it hasn't happened yet. Way overdue, no doubt. Could do it out here, although right now our yard is pretty much rocks & dirt. Landscaping and yard establishment is a priority project for this spring, & I'm dreading it. Hate yard work. To my knowledge Bozemanites predominate here, so this is the logical place, though. How about a surprise party at Greenhorn's? Maybe not. His trophy collection always puts me in a funk for some reason.

Yeah I'd vote for a party at Greenies-always a great place to go to get cranked up to "get to the hill"

Trophy collection? I'd say it's more of a morgue!
Seriously Bill, I think it'd be a good idea to do something... Mark and I get together pretty regularly (now that he's back in exile from West Dakota). My yard's rocks and dirt right now too... I'll be doing a sprinkler system in a few weeks and getting a yard in to boot... maybe we could meet here or I'll volunteer Greg Boylan's place out at Gallatin Gateway... he's got plenty of room and won't mind <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

We've had group barbecues at the Fish & Game Ponds, which isn't too bad of a place. Plus that way nobody's wife has to put up with a bunch of cretins. My next couple of meals are going to be Clif bars, string cheese, & backpack meals, though. Heading out on an overnighter. Looks like the monsoon season is letting up for at least today, & maybe I'll find the mother lode of shed antlers. Or not, depending if the folks off the private stuff below have gotten after it yet. But I suspect they've been busy playing cowboy, & besides the weather's been pretty crappy for the most part, so.... You know much about sprinkler systems, Brad? That's on my agenda too. Scored a deal on free topsoil, & used my matching '52 International utility tractor & Ford F-5 truck to haul about 20 yards out here. Was hoping to just lay the pipe & sprinklers down and then spread the topsoil, but it appears they need to go deeper than that. It's such a rockpile out here that trenchers have a tough go of it. I'd rather get my exercise climbing around the mountains than manning a pickaxe and shovel, but I might not have a choice. If that turns out to be the case, I will be accumulating enough marital points to allow unlimited hunting for years to come.
