If you like to hunt, and like being able to see the reticle on the first half of your scope's power range, you need second focal.

Stuff like hold over points will be accurate on FFP scopes at any power. Not so with SFP. This matters to some, not others. None matters at 300 really IMO. I strongly prefer FFP. (And never wear caps.) IE .5 mil hash marks. FFP scopes will retain the same values throughout the power range. “Life is life and fun is fun, but it's all so quiet when the goldfish die.”
