Thanks for that link CP- I've crossed and followed segments of the trail several times on with Scouts & on family camp outs and hunts, but never explored the details..several of those segments look interesting. Joe

Joe, as the result of the efforts of a countless number of volunteers, the Arizona Trail is extremely well maintained and is subject to a continuous improvement process. It is a class-act trail system for sure.

I’ve read and thought about hunting Arizona since I was a kid . Mogollon rim is legendary . Zane Grey wrote a pretty good story about a lion hunt there. I doubt I could draw an elk tag there in my usable elk lifetime at 56 .
I understand about the draw. I'll be 60 this fall so my chances are slim too but boy what a place to hunt!

I drew an archery tag up there back in 2003 and found a tiny little water hole down in a thickly wooded draw that was getting hammered. I put an arrow into a nice 6x6 on the third day, but never recovered him. I think I only got one lung due to his elbow slowing down my arrow as he was crouched over drinking. He had come up to 3 yards from my stand and looked and sniffed me over before he drank, but I had smeared juniper all over all my clothes and was "frozen" and he accepted me into the environment and then went over to drink at about 15 yards. I searched for him for three days and never found him. Did find a huge blood clot he had coughed up from his lungs. Still good country and a great trip.

Gentlemen and other old guys/girls. Wish I was only 60. The draw here is a strange beast..I've gone one 2 year stretch without, many 4-7 year stretches but had one very lucky stretch where I was drawn 4 years in a row. Who knows the cards to be dealt. Will be 71 this year and still huntin' by myself. Been setting around worrying if my app will make it this year and if I can get in good enough shape to make it if I'm drawn. Joe
