I never go down there that I don't make this loop. Best part of the trip for me. Meet real artist and craftsmen you don't see along the "strip".
The Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community is located off Highway 321 North, Glades Road/Buckhorn Road and the adjacent byways, just three miles from traffic light #3 in downtown Gatlinburg.

if you like Italian food, go to a place called Taste of Italy. Its a very unassuming place with great food. Also next to a grocery store which is convenient to stock up on items.
for Breakfast we hit Crocketts in Gatlinburg. The Old Mill is very popular for lunch/dinner in Pigeon Forge.

My family used to go through Cades Cove every year until the kids were grown. Grandkids too young to enjoy. Always enjoyed the tourists too. One year a black angus calf was out in a field and suddenly the cars were stopping. Tourists were shouting "Bear". Another trip an Asian guy was running across the field with his camera to get a pic of a bear cub. I expected mama bear to come charging, but didn't appear. Anyone wanting to see wildlife in the cove, especially in summer, needs to go early morning or late afternoons. We tried to end the tour just at sundown. The cabins and churches are worth walking through also.

Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg = people of Walmart on a grander scale
I live in Knoxville and would rather watch women’s golf on tv than to go up there.
Traffic is beyond horrific. Plan on an hour to go 7-8 miles.
Cade’s Cove is nice- easy hike to Abrams Falls halfway through the loop. Hiking the Chimneys or up to Trillium Gap is fun.
There are much better things to do in Tennessee than visit PF or GB.
Good luck.

cades cove, smoky mountain knife works, dollywood if you like parks(riding on the train there was worth addmission to me., busches baked beans factory if they are open, If you go to townsend tn where cades cove is, hit up the steak and trout house for supper. Its very good. The koa in townsend is a nice place to stay as well. I rode through gatlinburg once and it was a madhouse, dont waste your time there. You can also hit up cherokee nc. there is a koa there as well. fish for trout in the tribal rivers.

If you like pottery, you may want to try Flowers Clay Works. A small shop on the right on East Parkway. They have become expensive but he is really good. I also recommend that you go to Cades Cove. I would suggest getting there by going to the Sugar Lands Visitor Center on the south side of town, turn right on Little River Rd. and follow until you get to the Cades Creek Turn off. (Laurel Creek Rd.) This is a beautiful mountain road with really nice views.

The Smokey's are one of the most beautiful spots in the country that I've only seen a small portion of, so far.

Funny, I think I've done all of the things mentioned, AND dealt with the ridiculous traffic. Lol.

I love going to the Smokey's, Sevierville traffic and all.
I have learned my way around and where to stay to minimize the traffic, but it still a part of life. Traffic is actually why I don't go to Cades Cove anymore - at least the loop.
I normally stay east of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg about halfway between the two so I can get onto 321 which , at least for me, gives me a few driving options once I'm there.

You'd have to pay me to go to Pidgeon Forge or Gatlinburg.
