I picked up a Glenfield Marlin in a trade several months back and it has a Tasco scope on top of it. I wound up sending the rifle down the road but still have the scope. Looking more at it it is a Made in Japan model W412x40-1. It’s a 4x12x40 AO scope. I’ve heard these are of pretty good quality but have never mounted it on anything. What exactly is this scope? Can’t find much by googling the model.

I have a Japanese made Tasco, 3X9X40 World Class. It's good glass, and will hold it's zero as good as anything I've ever had.

I am not familiar with that particular model but the Japanese Tasco scopes were excellent scopes, their only issues being that the brightness is not up to todays standards. Everyone I have owned tracked very well.

I've had a 6-24x40 WC on my 308 for years (25?). It seems to be doing okay but I haven't done any major changes with the settings. I only adjust the parrallax and use the same load through that rifle. I normally only shoot out to 200yds and have a drop table stuck on the stock - old school aim off for correction.
Optics aren't real good - a mate of mine said it was like trying to look through a milkshake.
Whatever you said...everyone knows you are a lying jerk. That's a bold assertion. Point out where you think I lied. Well?

There were quite a few models of those Tasco Japan-made 4-12 A.O.'s. Some were pretty good, some....not so good.
Post a few pics and that will help determine what you've got.

If the glass is clear, Rock on and don't dwell on worrying about it... it would be a World Class model...
they were solid scopes for the money.. very dependable...

For the money, the Japanese World Class scopes are amongst the best values ever in the optic market.

The Tasco 4-12x40 AO scopes are solid and dependable, phased out in the late 1980s to early 1990s. That incarnation of Tasco became bankrupt in the late 1990s.
They are not from the World Class, or World Class Plus series which are early 1990s to bankruptcy. However they are generally superior to most American scopes of their time with click and repeatable adjustments.
Earlier scopes had simple plastic (almost rubbery) covers on the windage/elevation adjustments, later scopes adopted caps that were a little more fancy, being similar to Leupold caps in appearance.

Back when these scopes were popular, scopes in that price range were bitched about as being cheap shyt. and not worth wasting your money on. Fast forward, with the space age optical coatings, the glass is definitely superior to those old scopes. I know, before you jump on my azz, it's all about tracking and mechanical's. It;s just amazing how the wheel turns. I guess you can't have it all, unless you don't mind 2 pounds and a tube the size of a truck axle on top of your rifle. Rant off. RJ
