If you had a spare 30-06 or .280 lying around, what would you let JES change it into? (9.3x62 is off the table... already working on one.)

338-06 plays well with lesser rounds. I pair mine with a 280.
I also have the 9.3x62 you mentioned.

.400 Whelen. The most power you can pack into that bolt face.

With the 400 make sure you have a 'smith who knows what he's doing. It uses a .458 measure on the neck diameter. Be Well, RZ.

I'd say 35 Whelen or 375 Whelen, but if you already have a 9.3x62 in the works, I'd go with 338-06.

And don't rebore a good 280 to make it. Use the 30-06, or find a 270 somewhere.

338-06. I have a JES rebored 9.3x62. Looking at doing a 338-0) just for giggles. Tho I have looked long and hard at the 400 Whelen. But die availability and $$& is why I’m looking at 338-06. YMMV

I don't know, I had two nice Whelen rifles and have a nice .338-06. I liked all of them, but I find I reach for my .223, 6mm CM, and .270 to do most of my hunting and shooting. These days I'd probably just sell a rifle I wasn't interested in anymore.

Would suggest the .338-06.

Have the 9.3x62mm as well, so the A-Square would give you a longer range, high SD/BC medium bore.

Piece of cake man.

Quality cartridge has 400 Whelen brass in stock

4D has the 'Petrov' reamer for rent, 50 bucks, send that to JES and see if he can bore for .410.411" bullets.

CH4D may have 400 Whelen dies in stock.

OP, go 400 Whelen, or if you want to kick some tail out to 400 yards, the 35 Whelen will boot 250gr Partitions 2700 fps.
