So I just picked up a NIB Savage Model 14/.250 for $750us. I also have an option on these three, which is the better one for collectibility value?

1) 1928 K .303 Lyman tang 3055xx= $4875us
2) 99H TD 22hp engraved to be a ‘Baby K ‘ to match above,done by a FEGA engraver 2302xx=1875us
3) a 23B in 25/20 with Lyman peep and a Wollensak 4x scope 2040xx =$770us.
All in well above average conditions.

As an investment...

What length of time are you looking at? 5 years? 10? 20?

In my opinion, which is just that..mine, and an opinion;
You could get any and all of them in "above average" condition at those prices and probably turn them around for a gain almost immediately.., condition is the key.

The 99K will retain it's value as long as it retains it's condition, and increase steadily, although not rapidly, as judged (by me..) in the 15 internet-driven years I've been paying attention to 99s
The 99H will sell, and increase depending on the quality of the engraving.
The 23B will always be subject to the attraction of vintage cartridges, and the condition of the vintage scope

selling collectible stuff is always about knowing where to find your market.., You've found the right audience for your collection of Savages.

I doubt it will be for 20 as I’m 67 now, but who knows. I was more or less looking for opinions on which one is the best value today.
I I have 18 1899/99’s but I sure don’t have a K. Or a lot of money!
The 99H or a .22hp I also have been looking for, but biggest concern is does the engraving, even though done by an accredited FEGA member distract from it?
On the 23B I’d never heard of a Wollensak scope till I googled it and it doesn’t appear to have the charisma that a Malcolm does but I haven’t a clue to value.

Just looking for opinions on the best bang for my buck.

If you're looking to invest the later tang safety models are red hot right now.

I'd say buy the 99K, and even if you lost a few hundred when your heirs sell it - too bad. You'll have had a 99K. grin

I have a couple, NIB .243 with the dime size medallion in the butt stock, 243 CD, 7-08C, .300DL and a weird.375CD made in 03/82.
Prices are climbing up here too, thankfully not as fast as GB.

Definitely the K. After market engraving is not original. If it is nice it can add value above what the unengraved gun would bring but it will never be any where near as valuable as an original engraved rifle such as the K.

You’re going to love that M14 in 250 Savage . I bought one new in 2009 when the factory fired up the line to make the American Classics . I had them install the varmint AccuTrigger in mine .

Remember , as with anything , you can only spend “ too much “ for a finite amount of time before the market catches up with what it costs you . I haven't seen prices like this since before the 2008 market crash . Today the pre-mills are commanding top $$ like never before . I still say the tang safeties will come crashing down .

I'd go with the K , but I would personally prefer an example in 250 or 300 .

Can't be many 303 K's out there.

Bob, looking back at that older posting on your 99-C in ,375 Win... what are the two extra holes on the left side? For a none Savage receiver sight? Were they there when you bought it?
