Years ago there was a bank out of Colorado that would give you a Weatherby rifle for the deposit of money?

Anyone remember this and when it took place?

That was a bank in Boulder. At one time they were the biggest Weatherby dealer in the nation. How it worked was you gave your money to the bank and instead of interest they gave you the rifle and you agreed to leave the money in the bank for a set amount of time. The amount and time depended on the rifle package. I believe this was back in the 1970s and 1980s.

I grew up in CO and I seriously doubt the CO of today will allow such a program to be in place.

I think it was in the 1980s or so. I don't think it would work now because the interest rates are so low.

The rifles were Weatherby Mk Vs in .300 Wby caliber. Back then most hunters didn't want to pay the extra cost of a Weatherby. Unless you were content with a 30-30 or 35 Remington, Winchester and Remington were really the only choices for full-powered bolt actions. both of them were too stupid to chamber the Model 70 or 700 in Weatherby calibers.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

In addition to the Bank of Boulder, quiet a few local banks jumped on the bandwagon with similar programs. I doubt you could do it now with the goofy laws and avaricious lawyers we have.

There was a Savings and loan that was doing the same thing. You had to give them 5 grand and you got the rifle. As was always with my luck when it came to things like this, I sent them the 5 grand and the next week was the start of the Savings and loan catastrophe. Needless to say I lost the 5 grand and also never received my rifle. The was right around 1990.

I always intended to make a deposit at that bank but, for whatever reason, never did. Wish I'd done so.

Many years ago, Tex Earnhardt, a Ford dealer in Phoenix, gave customers a new shotgun and pair of boots with every new vehicle purchase. Tex was a flamboyant guy who died about a year ago. His original Ford dealership subsequently morphed into a virtual empire and is now operated by his sons.

Texas Dodge Dealers offered a new Winchester 94 when you bought a new Dodge pickup in 1984.

Cousin of mine had one he got with the pickup. I killed some hogs with it. smile

IIRC someone was doing AR,s after the AWB expired in 04.
Might be mistaken but think it was a auto dealer in Tn.

Certainly do. I wanted to take part in that in 1978. Did not have the money until 2008. I called them then & inquired as I had not seen it advertised. I was told they ended that offer in 2007. I missed it by a year. I was sad, but I bought one anyway. It's a 7 Wby Mk V Lwt. That booger's got some serious horsepower.

I remember that promotion! Didn't have the cash as a young man to take part back then.

A local car dealership was 'giving' away an AR to folks who bought from them during the O administration. I'm unsure if they're still doing so.

I remember that as well. Dad was quite interested until he realized that you didn't get the rifle AND the interest.

Cool thread. That was blast from the past. I remember seeing those ads in magazines as a young kid when my own only source of income was an allowance. I always hoped that I would have the money someday to get a “free Weatherby.”

Local jewelry shop runs a promotion every fall, buy an engagement ring, get a deer rifle. Higher priced gets higher value. Of course, markup in jewelry business is huge to cover their promotion.
