It's amazing how these businesses today go down the toilet so fast when the 'net goes down. I've been in that situation where I was shopping and everything seemed fine until it was time to pay for my stuff and get out. Major hassle; even for folks like me who pay cash. WTF ???

Tip em as very few can count change. No cashiers but they are all technicians.
The end of democracy, and the defeat of the American Revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed incorporations.

Yes. A web crash or power outage and business comes to a complete standstill. Progress???? I don't think so. Sad and scary.

All the more reason to always keep some good ol' hard cash on hand.
Common occurrence during major wide spread power outages caused by hurricanes, tornadoes, ice and snow storms, earthquakes, etc., often lasting for days, weeks and possibly even months in some cases, leaving credit / debit cards pretty much just worthless pieces of plastic. Regardless how big of a credit line or money in banks you have you can't get access to it.

Cash won’t do you any good if there is no power.

I worked as a cashier for a major supermarket chain when I was a college student in the late 1970's. The registers could be operated with a crank during a power outtage. Like me, another relic of the past.

Lots of free cash so people are happy and buying, getting fat sitting at home and watching the government steal away their freedom.

We are cash folk. Guy I work with thinks it's a great thing that he never has cash. Someone fundraising, he has to borrow $5 or 10. 57 year old man and he ain't good for 10 phugging dollars! Too stupid to even be ashamed of it.
"Why don't you stick a 5, 10 and 20 dollar bill in your wallet? If you need money, it's enough to buy what you might need?"
"I like my card"
No idea how many times the gas station card machines have been down and Phuctard has been running on fumes, can't buy snuff. But he almost brags about it.
WTF! A man willingly puts himself in a helpless position and then thinks it's a badge of honor?
P.S.He don't carry a knife or watch either.
P.P.S. His wife keeps 'em in her purse. Aint a big purse. He gets real mad when we mention Karen letting him get them out. Yep, that's her name!
On the other hand, one of my daughter's teachers was telling the kids They should carry a bit of cash. He keeps a 20 and a 100. Just in case. Has had them for years, but they are insurance. A smart man there.

I use my debit card generally if I am swiping myself. I use my credit card if I am out to eat and the waitstaff take it to run it. That said I usually carry enough cash to pay for my groceries , dinner or gas if I need to or care to.
Life can be rough on us dreamers.

Many gas stations around here are pay at the pump only. Cards or no gas for you.

i taught all my kids to have a "tuck 20". i actually keep 60-80 tucked into a pocket in my wallet just in case. i also keep a 20 in all my glove boxes with my registration and insurance card. although i use the debit card frequently, i like to operate on cash most times. debit cards are a good way to end up living paycheck to paycheck with no idea where your money goes.
My diploma is a DD214

In most stores, the checkout doesn't just take in money. Scanning items is linked to inventory control, re-ordering, and sales statistics.
If the internet is down for long, the "system" may think there's plenty of milk and bread on hand, when in reality the shelves are bare from cash sales. It won't know that it needs to restock toilet paper and Spam.

I use credit cards almost exclusively, but I keep an emergency $100 bill hidden in my wallet along with another hundred or two of walking around money. Because you never know, and I do hate to use a CC for small purchases like a cuppa. Bills are nice for tipping, too.
Since The Great Covidiocy, I've seen more and more stores that have signs "Cards only - No Cash Transactions." They're afraid of cooties on the money, I guess.
