The Lever on one of my 99RS closes nicely with nothing in the chamber, but when a round is picked up the last 1/4" of lever closure into battery is VERY hard. Note: the .300 Savage rounds used to test ARE within spec, so my assumption is that its something else. I was told there is an old thread about this, but I can't find it. Any ideas welcome. Thanks

Just because the brass is within spec doesn't mean the chamber is.
I can offer no help on finding the old thread, sorry.

It's in spec. The rounds drop right in when not using the bolt. Thanks though.

The extractor sounds like it needs to be looked at.

Why the extractor? Its static on closure fir either empty or with a round being chambered.

You indicate that you have more than one 99R. Do those rounds fit in the other rifles? If so, does the cartridge slide in the chamber the same distance? Try chambering a previously fired case. If these are reloads, try chambering a factory round.

Thanks I'm not the guy to figure out if this is the problem or not but I found this old thread that is similar to your issue. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...ever-very-hard-to-close-bolt#Post8799929
