The 379$ Walmart Special ADL 700s
Yep got a few builds on those. Trip the stock and scope/rings on fleabay, got a action for under 3 bills. 👍 They’re better at $200. Picked up A .223 and .243 last year. Even told my wife about it... No flies on my Higgins 50/51 or Dads 51L either.

The old JC Higgins M50s were often sold pretty cheap by those who didn't know what an FN-98 was.
Supplies are drying up these days and prices are up. I will 2nd that opinion.

TC Icon. I have one of their Weathershield Models in 300 Win and it’s one of the most accurate rifles I’ve owned. It’s a little on the heavy side, but about right for a 300. Every load I’ve tried with it has shot well, and some loads have been excellent. It’s a shame that they were so overlooked and are no longer made.

I never hear or see much about the Browning X-bolt but mine is the best of all the many bolt action hunting rifles that I've owned. That's good to know.

When I was a kid and had just gotten my M94 Win. .30-30, I used to hear all the time about how it was just totally inadequate much beyond 50 yards, and there was some debate as to whether it was any good that far away. Mostly guys with .30-06s and .270s were doing the trash-talking, and I had one fellow tell me it was nothing but junk as he dropped the bolt on his Remington 742. It was 1971.
I can't help but wonder if that rifle is still running today. And I've killed deer further away than 50 yards with that same .30-30...
One interesting thing I noticed, when Specialty Pistols were popular, was that a .30-30 was a weak and antiquated round in a 20" carbine, but brother, it set the world on fire out of a Contender.

I've found some pretty good deals on Sportsman 78s over the years. Still own two of them.

Of the rifles listed so far, I share hands on experience with the following:
Win 70 push feed Wthby vang Howa 1500 TC icon
All rock solid, steady performers and typically quite accurate.....with a well kept specimen the average shooter should easily stay close to MOA accuracy.

Savage model 10. It just works.
Ruger American. If you judge a rifle about it's ability to precisely place a bullet downrange, this rifle excels. In a price per performance comparison I doubt this would be beat.

Marlin xl7 and stevens 200 were great guns that I believe were overlooked because they were priced below their worth.
I fully agree on the X7 series. Good guns priced cheap, and were a good switch barrel. I'll grudgingly agree on the Stevens, my reservation is I'm not a huge fan of the Rube Goldberg bolt design, but the dang things shoot!

Out my rifles. $299 TC venture keeps up or bests my tikkas
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Add my vote for these. Never had a bad one or any problem at all with them.

I'm not sure in the current market there is such an animal. If it will go bang when the trigger is pulled it's appreciated often much more than common sense would dictate.
