Looking for a reasonable turkey hunting trip.
Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, or other areas west where you can get tags.
I’m not looking to drop $1500-bird for a 100 ac “ranch” with 4 turkeys on it.
I can walk and hunt, but I’m not familiar with these states yet.

Thanks

The Hunting Public guys score on Public land all over the country, so I suspect you can too. Just takes some research. I’m content to take my chances close to home. They use On-X, but are very careful to keep their discoveries secret out of respect for the local hunters, even to using “sample” maps that kind of match the actual locations.

Honestly, I wouldn’t expect anyone to divulge their honey-holes on a public forum either.

Look up Outdoor Access. They may have some properties for rent in those states.

I'm heading to the Black Hills in two days to hunt Merriam.
Will be hunting the National Forest (public land). Pick an area and learn it.

Lucky you. Not sure my “wheels” are up to that, but it sure looks like pretty country. So does the Nebraska Sandhills.

It is a drive, that's for sure. I'd like to hunt the Sand Hills of Nebraska sometime. I understand those birds are mostly a Rio/Merriam hybrid.

I was referring to the “wheels” at the ends of my legs. Gotta pace myself these days. Charley Horses can happen at any moment!

Gotcha........I've been walking as much as possible (especially hills) getting ready. I'm 67 and the youngest of the three of us going. I'm likely in the worst shape, still coming off open heart surgery ten months ago.
Yeah, well, anyway......turkey hunting is fun no matter where you go. Best wishes

Yeah I guess I’ll look into some public and see what I can find and get after it.
I’ll also get that OnX app too so I’ll know where I’m at.

If you send for a Nebraska license........or information packet...........one of the things they send you back is a statewide public access guide. It's the size of a small phone book and quite helpful.

Gobble and grunt outfitters in Nebraska is worth the money. A turkey hunting experience you won’t forget. Tons of birds.

Thanks for those replies. I’ll plan on Nebraska next year and have my research all done. I’m hitting Kansas in a few weeks.
I looked into New Mexico also and found a spot there I think close to public.
