Seriously. Right now there is an auction on one of the more popular web sights for a brick of 22 shorts. There is a day and a quarter left to go with 13 bids already in. And the current bid is at 430-bucks! Is this the new toilet paper? Holy smokes, what absurd price will tomorrow bring?

Its legal, you can ask price you want. P.T. Barnum summed it up quite nicely. Gun show yesterday had large rifle primers for $200/1000.

The good news was bout 10 99s, all fairly reasonably priced. A nice pre war R, H, few EGs and even a 22HP. Good to see Savage 99s at prices I would be willing to pay if I was a mind to buy.

Didn't mean to imply it was illegal. But I will question the sanity of it from the buyers perspective. And by the way, where's Groucho?

I was thinking of selling off a bunch of ammo I don't really need and buying a rifle with the proceeds. Stick it on GB on a penny auction and see where it goes.

"And by the way, where's Groucho?"

Yah, caught that as well. There is somebody out there using Groucho for an avatar. grin

I don't feel so bad about buying 1000 CCI rifle primers for $23 about a year and a half ago. Still got around 940 left. At .20 ea I'm sitting on $180!

Now thats a good rate of return!

Should of bought a few more....

I just came across 5 boxes of factory .303 Savage loads (190 grain Silvertips). I could probably get a few bucks for them, but I think I'll keep them.

Remember 2-3 years ago when Walmart had the sale on Federal ammo, and Federal had the $5 rebate going at the same time. I got ten boxes of 30-30 for $4.96 a box. I’ve been tempted to sell them.

Even during the Y2K "panic" you could buy a brick of Federal 22 at Walmart for 10-bucks! Other than human behavior, I'm not so certain there's a good reason for it going for much more than that right now. If 22 prices stay this high it will spell the doom of most rimfire shooting in the future as who would be willing to spend premium ammo prices for an economy sport? Not I.

I have been paying premium prices for many years now - it's the price of admission for my .22 sport. I don't plink much with .22's but I do a lot of serious target shooting/experimentation. The last three bricks of .22 ammo I bought over the winter before it too dried up came to $200/brick with shipping (Eley Tenex), pretty much what it has sold for for a long time. I don't waste the stuff on tin cans. If the "new permanent" price is higher than that, I shall pay it, grudgingly and while uttering a lot of very bad words, but I won't eliminate cutting edge .22 accuracy shooting from my life. If I never kill another pop bottle with bargain .22 plinking ammo I truly could care less - but I feel for the people who do.

As I know, you already know, if the CCI 22Standard Velocity stays crazy high, I’ll switch over to roll your own Hornets. I still have several hundred pounds of mono type. Doesn’t help much with the one hole target 22’s. But, there are some pretty cool Hornets out there. I know of one German one with a set trigger. That’s if primers ever come back down to Earth.

Economy sport meaning plinking and small game/vermin hunting. That’s the stuff I fear doomed by high prices. The stuff of basic Ruger 10/22s and their brethren.
