There's a community college that has the "Artichokes" as their team name. Way back when a 'progressive' instructor there convinced the students to vote in that name.

There's a community college that has the "Artichokes" as their team name. Way back when a 'progressive' instructor there convinced the students to vote in that name. I remember the big fight when Scottsdale Community College was started. They had a set budget for new buildings. The students wanted academic buildings while the administration wanted to be come a Jr college sports power house. They spent the money on a new stadium instead of educational type buildings. The students had the right to select their own mascot so they chose the Artichokes as a protest against the sports minds.
