I just bought this rifle NIB. Has anyone seen one of these in a featherweight stock? I thought it was a Fwt. but when reading the barrel "Lightweight" in inscribed. The stock has a recoil pad. I believe the Serial was G181847x. The lightweight I had in the past had what I called a 2x4 stock with checking. This rifle looks really nice and there is room between the metal and wood in the chamber area. Has anyone seen one of these? Thanks in advance.
If you look at the pictures at the link, it is basically a FW metal action in a slightly different stock design from the FW. Notice the rounded fore end on the stock and a different checkering pattern
BayouRover-That is the lightweight that I know and remember. This rifle that I have is in a Fwt stock. Scnable and all. My stock is a Fwt tock and the metal at the chamber area does not fill up the wood.

Pictures would be a fabulous thing.

I got several featherweights and lightweights only difference is the stock
Yeah, some here are grasping at straws. Akwolverine knows better too.

I don't think so. Like others have said, the only difference between the lightweight and fwt is the stock. One had the schnabel forend and the other didn't. The barrel contours were the same. If there is a void in the stock where the op says there is, it is more than likely a lightweight dropped into one of those so called fwt's that were magnums. They had 300wm that were termed "fwt" for some weird azzed reason. It was basically a sporter weight dropped in to a fwt stock and then called a fwt. See video, you'll see what I'm talking about. I'd think you knew better. Also this thread is worthless without pics, as we are all grasping at straws, unless we can see exactly what the op is talking about. But my best hunch is the stock came off a magnum fwt...

What? I said nothing of the barrel contour; just that it sounds like a featherweight stock. If it’s a featherweight stock from a magnum contour, there will be a pretty decent gap the whole length of the barrel channel.
The lightweight was a slimmer stock; you can put a lw action in a fw stock, but not vice versa without minor modifications to floorplate depth iirc.

There is a pretty good gap (1/16" both sides) in the chamber area but the gap closes as it goes down the barrel.
win70-I am thinking you are right. I've been on several rides in my life and thinking there will be more. LOL It still makes a nice light, good looking 280.
I had one. Also a .280. Was N.I.B.at a gunshow. Was basically a featherweight action in a plain "hardwood" stock. No fancy fore end. Checkering was impressed...... Serial number was 1,850,000........ It WAS a lightweight ,though. Stamped as such right on the barrel. Never heard of another "lightweight" until now....
