Nice. I've kind of been keeping an eye out for one of those for a while, but they've jumped in price and just haven't found the right one.

I wanted one with at least the bolt and receiver had matching numbers. On GB they have been going for some crazy money. Glad i got this one local and cheap. Lol.

You'll feel much better when you're out in the bush with 10 rounds in the magazine.

I have a box with my load records that I just saw recently and ya think I could find it. Had brought them in the house to reorganize and I guess the load record monster consumed them. Been busy today with son-in-law returning from his 2nd deployment in Mideast today and haven't had real time to search. Anyway for around jacketed 180 grain softpoints of the major bullet producers, I have always had good/accurate results with Alliant RL-15. For cast 185 grain GC Lee's I use mostly Accurate 5744 which produces nice shooting accurate reduced loads. I've even used RedDot and 2400 for reduced cast bullet loads. These three powders also work good for cast loads my 06's, 8mm's, and 7.62x54 Russian bolt military rifles. I can't hunt deer in Iowa with any bottleneck rifle loads, so it's mostly mid and long range target shooting. I did blow the 'chuck' out of a woodchuck once with my Savage 303. I was in my rural backyard range shooting and a woodchuck I'd been gunning for with a .22 made himself available at around 40 yards. Took advantage of his mistake and lifted em off all four paws when the 185 grain Lee cast bullet hit. One shot-one kill!!!! No more 'chuckin' for him! (Ifin yer interested Triple D, I can PM ya some of my powder grain usages if interested-reload records aren't lost, just hiden!)

I never owned a No.4 MkI but have had a plethora of No.1 MkIII's pass through my mitts. If the bedding's up to snuff and the bore is pristine those old British warhorses will perform. Surprisingly the best lot of surplus ammo I shot was some Pakistani stuff, but OMG the bore had to be cleaned immediately after shooting as it was horribly corrosive (as is pretty much all ancient .303 military ball ammo). The prettiest one I had was a 1918-dated BSA No.1 MkIII* that was flat out minty, but with Nazi Waffenamts stamped all over it. My best guess was it was captured in Northern France or Dunkirk in 1940. Kinda wish I still had it, but someone wanted it a lot more than I did. A Lot More. I'm still holding out for a Savage-made Lewis gun, or a Savage-made Thompson.

My Savage No4 Mk I has US Government stamped on it, but was never sent to England. My other No.4 Mk I is a post war late 40's Brit Enfield made in Fazakerley. Both are smooth actions, good barrels, and accurate with the right ammo, ten shots almost as fast as a semi-auto. About the only other bolt rifle of mine that may have a smoother action is a 1902 30-40 Krag. Greased lightin' that one is!!!!

Mmmm boy, you got that right!
How do you know your Lend-Lease No.4 never went to England (or anywhere else)? Absence of Broad Arrow acceptance marks?

Jeez, if these things could only talk. (Of course, we may not want to hear what they have to say.)
