Ok, best guess. That is not carpet, it is a decorative epoxy over concrete. Neither the safe or this heavy object seem to be sinking into carpet.
Maybe we are looking at one side of a divided 3 (or larger) car garage.
On the other side of that wall, we have one of these:
Probably something far less complicated than that, but I sure as hell can't figure it.
The hole in the 2nd from bottom board doesn't make sense. Perhaps access for an outlet, though it seems to low on the wall for an outlet. And surely anyone going to that kind of trouble could have moved a simple outlet.
Guns are responsible for killing as much as Rosie O'Donnel's fork is responsible for her being FAT.
Turn it around and use it as a target for throwing axes. Could also be used as a backboard for a game of darts, possibly played with a set of sharpened lawn jarts.

I vote this but not sure what the hole in lower left would be fore?
Looks like it would be a convenient place to stand up your long guns when you take them out to clean and oil. Maybe an old man who can no longer get out to hunt and shoot. Takes pleasure in getting his guns out, lining them up and recalling the memories. Does look like the floor is epoxy or painted concrete, not carpet. The boxes on top of the safe look like speakers. No idea what the long thing is on top.
