OP High_Noon Campfire Outfitter Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 8,793 TX	Just got back from the ranch (E. of Abilene). Met some Buds out there on Monday. Tuesday night (about 2:00 AM) we were all pretty lit and one of us was playing the acoustic guitar pretty enthusiastically with both the front and back doors to the lodge open. We began to hear a loud 'screaming.' I went out to the back porch and it was louder: here & then there - then over there. I ran back into the lodge and grabbed a spotlight and there was a reddish/gray fox with a black tip on his bushy tail standing about 25 feet away looking right at me. The noise he made was a rather loud bark/scream and he was pissed. Very pissed. He kept pacing back and forth screaming at us. We obviously interrupted his nightly prowl. This went on for about 15 minutes. He didn't seem too concerned that there were 4 drunk dudes eyeballing him from the back porch. He finally ran off, but we could still hear him in the distance for about another 10 minutes. In all my years in the outdoors, I've never heard a fox make a sound and I've seen quite a few. We're probably some of the the few people around that have ever heard a fox make a noise like that. It was a pretty danged cool experience. Not necessary for anyone to post the "What Does the Fox Say" video/song. Edit: also saw a pretty big Whitetail deer with a black head! And 3 separate sounders of hogs totaling about about 200, but didn't get a shot off in time.
