Thoughts on these? I just bought one that I plan to use on a 700 I've had for a long time in an awful laminated stock. It should be here in a few days. How do they compare to the bansner stock that came on the howa alpine?

I like them. I’ve used several over the years. They’re not a whole lot different than the standard Bansner stock, little thinner and shorter forend and no cheek piece.

They are my favorite stock. Is yours one of the new production stocks that are stronger and lighter? I’ve yet to get my hands on one of the new ones but I have 4 old ones.

They look and feel very similar to the Howa Alpine but I’ve never had them side by side.

I can't say for sure but it was advertised as a LAW take off and reported to be 28 oz.

I have two of them. I dropped one on some rocks 5-6 years ago and it put this fracture/soft spot in the stock right under the cheak piece (not a sheep hunter). It wasn't an extremely hard hit and I was a bit surprised that it did as much damage. They seem to be slightly on the brittle side but what do you expect out of an aging lightweight stock.

The best stock pattern Bansner makes IMHO. 28oz seems high, but I think LAW used an aluminum bedding block which would add some weight. I know my sheep hunters were lighter, but I had lightweight pads on them as well.

I’d get ahold of Mark Bansner. Bet a dollar he’d send you a new blank. I’ve never had him question any warranty claim, even when it was a customer’s fault for doing something silly. I knew a guy who put one on a rifle for a customer and he broke it at the wrist when he buttstroked a wounded fox, I think he even got a new one.

Very handy. Glued a flip flop on mine and its a great feeling stock/rifle.

I use flip flops for recoil pads too. I just epoxy them onto the stock. They are cheap and hold up well.

Rem Mod 7 250 Savage - Bansner stock and Rem Mod 700 Mt Rifle 7mm-08 - Brown Precision stock.

I always thought the cheapest quickest way to get a 6lb rifle was buy a Rem 700 Mountain Rifle and drop it into a Brown Precision fiberglass stock with a flop flop recoil pad. I think the kevlar one is lighter still. The Bansner would do the same. I really like mine.

I have a seven FS with a brown precision stock that I really like. Looking forward to comparing it to the bansner.

So this was supposed to be delivered last Saturday but just got here today. Luckily everything looks good. Stock 8s super light. Will weigh it before mounting it up but here's a few quick pics.

Man, I hope you’re wrong!

I put one of the HTGs on a Ruger 35 Whelen. Once I get it back I’ll weigh it. Weaver said they were around 20 ounces though with a pad.

OP mentioned someone told him 28 oz ...

Please let us know how much fitting is required or for it is a drop in before bedding. I have two older sheep hunters and they are a great stock, but the early ones needed a lot of fitting and filling to get to look and fit right. Your stocks looks miles ahead of the ones I have in terms of finish. Mine weigh more in the 24 to 25 OZ range.
