Bob yours is a good question. I doubt people that have done this even stop long enough to consider they might die. I saved a guy one time that had put himself in harms way, accidentally. It was an easy choice and it took a split second in timing so there was no thought, just doing. Had he been alone he'd be dead.

The ones that I think of are the people that full well know that every day they get up they may face this. Like fire fighters. Or the guys we read and hear about that sacrifice themselves so their fellow soldiers can live. But the men that I will forever hold in high regard and wish I could somehow repay are those 56 that signed the Declaration of Independence. That was 245 years ago. They knew many they risked everything for were people they'd never know.

Well honestly, Todd Corbin survived which really isn't in context with this thread---but I have absolutely no doubt he would have if need be.

While I was enlisted in the Navy I never dreamed of dying for ANYONE but I was going to do my job to the best of my ability no matter what was going on. And I suspect there are a literal TON of hero's that did what they were trained to do with nothing more than that on their minds when their time ended. That's what it's all about. And those that are hero's to this day will tell you the same thing. They were the lucky ones, their fallen friends were the unlucky.
