Ok, I like fast cartridges in general, and many of my hunting rifles are calibers that push their respective fodder in the high 2k to low 3k velocities, including my 223AI's, 250AI, 7-08AI etc, But lately, I have been leaning towards the "fat and slow" side of things. My 338 Federal which pushes a 185gn TTSX along at 2680, a relatively mild load, and my 450 Bushmaster with a 250gn FTX moving at about 2350fps absolutely hammers anything I point them at. The 2 good bucks I took last season fell to the Bushmaster. I had intended to do a little hog control that afternoon as they had been making pigs of themselves around my deer feeder. Didn't see any hogs, but 2 decent bucks within 20 minutes of each other. The second buck was a really good one for our area, so I filled my final tag. They both dropped instantly, and neither bullet exited. I've seen similar with very fast calibers like my 22-250 using V-Max's, but it is more usual to see them run a short distance before expiring.
Hogs do the same thing when hit with the Bushmaster. Instant lights out, sometimes a little kicking, but I've yet to see more effective kills overall using other cartridges.

Badger- I like the 450, too. But I use it when I draw a non resident Iowa tag where straight wall cartridge rifles may be used. What rifle are you shooting the BM in?

Badger, you can still hunt deer? It's almost May. They didn't shed yet?
