Didnt know the guy, but seemed a hell of a man. Carl Undercofler was 83yrs old, died at the Hyner View Trail Challenge. This place is near and dear to me, as its close to camp. PA Trail Dogs hold a 25k and 50k every year except last due to covid. According to PA Trail Dogs...
"The trail community lost one of the most genuine and kindest individuals one could ever meet yesterday at the Hyner Challenge--Carl Undercofler. Carl collapsed as he reached the foot of the View wall and was immediately tended to by a fellow Trail Dog who is a trained first responder. Unfortunately, nothing could be done at that point to help him. I have personally known Carl for the past 15 years and know he'd be angry at us for being sad because he was just doing what he loved to do while at his favorite place in the world--Hyner View."

Can you imagine being 83yrs old and still climbing those hills? Again, didnt know the man, but he must be proud of the fact that when his time came he could go out where and what he loved to do more than anything. May he RIP.
Good for him. He ain’t gonna be a financial or physical burden to ‘nobody’ with end of life issues. I hope he had that same smile on his face, and felt the same apparent joy inside, when he left.
At least he died doing what he loved. That is a beautiful area, I've been hunting near there since the mid 80's. Headed up this weekend for some spring turkey and trout fishing.
