This bayonet was among some family stuff. There are only a few numbers and a letter stamped on it. asw at the finger guard on one side and 5863y on the other side. It looks like it would be a good tool to stick in a pigs neck.

Any idea?

Looks like a typical Mauser bayonet although with so many variations of Mauser 98's out there it might be difficult to say which specific model it would go on.

It's a German bayonet for the k98 Mauser rifle. Should have a matching serial number on both the bayonet and the metal scabbard. On the scabbard,the number will be up near the throat,under the leather frog.

Did a little research and you guys are. spot on. Serial numbers do not match. Lots of blue on the blade. Seems like it is worth about 100 dollars.
