https://www.militarytimes.com/off-d...eck-out-kalashnikovs-new-service-pistol/I have a co-worker that was born in the Ukraine. He was looking to buy one of these based on reports from friends back home. It is not available in the US. This is his first pistol purchase. 1) Anyone know about this pistol? 2) Anyone know when it will be available in the US? 3) Suggestions for this guy as to what would be a good substitute?

M&P, Glock, Sig, CZ, FN, Walther, H&K... take your pick. These are all proven designs with good factory and aftermarket support and are readily available. There is no reason to go out into the weeds screwing around with some unknown hard to attain and support weapon system.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

Don't mean so sound like a smart a$$ but he is not in Ukraine anymore, he is in the US. But something like was mentioned before that you can get mags, holsters, and service for. Good luck to your friend
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

Why spend all the time and effort to get a Lada when you can get a Toyota with less efforts.

Its neat for the collector. I have a bud who likes to collect Russian stuff and he always has interesting stuff to shoot. I'm sure it's a decent pistol, but it's not my cup of tea. Plastic pistols are tools. Revolvers and classic auto's are the interesting guns for me.

My other handguns are to satisfy my interest in firearms as a hobby, while recognizing that they will still served their intended purpose just fine, just not quite as well (all things considered) as Glocks and the like.

Perhaps contact Kalashnikov USA if they plan on importing it? https://kalashnikov-usa.com/

That's a different gun. The OP referenced the PL15, not the KP9.
